The white tank makes me think propane. I see many black propane tanks on NS, also some white. But I've never seen a white oil tank.
I see them every now and then in an oil train. We get a lot of oil trains through here coming and going to all the refineries in the vicinity. They are pretty much always a solid block of tank cars with 1267 on the placard. And of course a "buffer" car of some sort between the tank cars and the locomotives. If you squint real hard you can read the placards on Hemi's photo
Right behind you was where Billy Schumaker had his hydroplane race shop. I was in there a few times. Love that sport...
Russ, My photos are not quite that sharp! It could be anything. Anhydrous Ammonia (fertilizer), natural gas/propane (dozens of petroleum gas in black tank cars thru Minot daily), oil empties, etc.
Yup, remember seeing that! It's a construction company now. I drive by the Hydro Museum everyday to work and back, but still haven't been in there. They stop by every now and then to my work and get they're trucks and hydro trailers worked on. Gotta' check it out one of these days......
Get in there for a visit! You will be glad you stopped by. You won't be there for just a few minutes.....
A few more BN remnants hanging around Glendive, and I still remember being "bored" of seeing so much Cascade green!
There was a BN Cascade Green covered hopper in the yard in Oakland, Ca. a couple days ago. I couldn't get a photo because I was driving.
What is on the ends of the ties, that looks like cable or piping? Something to do with a switch heater?
May have something to do with signaling and track occupation. Notice that "the cable" seems to terminate at the orange painted rail joiner. Insulated and isolated?
Just a few BN, this first was 18 May and snow!! And a string of unmolested hoppers! And just for fun!!
