I'm curious. I will soon be painting my metal bodied Docksider. What did you use to prep the surface for paint? Cleaning products? Primer? Or just straight to paint? Sent from my moto g(7) play using Tapatalk
What I did was place the brass pieces in the dishwasher and let it run, then only handled the piece with gloves or something to keep the oil from my hands off the piece. I have also cleaned the piece if it felt it was necessary in an ultrasonic cleaner, some with brass will also soak it in vinegar to give the brass some tooth to hold the paint, but it needs to be washed again to remove all traces of vinegar, another way to add tooth is blast the piece with grit or the cheap way of baking powder, again it needs to be washed to remove all traces of the grit/baking powder. My son attended Kettering University (the old GMI) in Flint, and the school acquired the old Chevrolet Plant by campus, but I don't know if they tore it down or repurposed the building for educational purposes. Rick Jesionowski
I can't speak to that. I know that the Chevrolet plant next to I-69 was taken over by Truck and Bus and the old Buick plant is now completely gone. Flint is in dire economic circumstances now. When I worked in Flint in 2010 or 2011, my boss had a couple of machines that weighed at least 2,000 lbs apiece stolen out of a warehouse yard by scrap thieves and people were torching abandoned buildings to keep the fire department from getting laid off.
