The historic Izaak Walton Inn was just listed for sale. Built by the Great Northern Railway, this is a well known destination for tourism, railfans and more. Anyone with a few million spare dollars might wish to take a look at this opportunity. https://flatheadbeacon.com/2022/03/22/historic-izaak-walton-inn-listed-for-sale/
The wife and I were there in 2010. It has a lot of history and was very cool visiting. If the walls could talk man those would be some great stories. The wife and I would like to go back some day.
News here that it's been sold to Washington state owners LOGE Camps. https://www.yahoo.com/now/owner-plans-complement-past-present-140100073.html
That article describes the historic Izaak Walton Inn at Essex as a "magical destination". If you surveyed a group of kiddies and asked them to name a "magical destination" for a vacation, what are the odds that any of them would choose Essex MT, instead of Orlando FL?
Well, the vast majority of railfans seem to be of an age to drive and chase trains. They sort of have this perception that it is a "magical" place. Easy access. Tourists love it. Unless something changes, excellent dining. Plus it is popular for fishermen, hikers, cross country skiing and..... As I have been there many times, I would certainly choose time at Essex. As soon as the snows melt enough that pulloffs and other escapes from the highway are open again, I'll be heading up there once more.
