Okay, decals on the way in for a Northern Pacific WV caboose. Looking at color internet pics, it is difficult to be sure what the red color was. Did it start out as a red, dark red or cranberry color and then fade to oxide red or did it start out as oxide and then fade to brown? Never saw a prototype one myself,so I am asking you guys.

Atlas made one in N scale, however it's not a wide vision...

Having grown up between the NP and GN during the last years of steam and trying to geese back 60-70 plus years I do not remember ever seeing that bright of a red on the cabooses. More like an oxide red or reddish brown.

That first pic is perfect! You can see the difference in the red of the Monon and the body of the caboose. Thank you!

I agree, John. I too saw the last of NP's active revenue steam, and on to the (ugh) "merger". There was no reddish hue that I can recall.

Well, ratz! No fair bringing facts into this! I guess RS1s would still have been running then, or else I need to repaint another caboose!

The NP wood cabeese were painted a red color that faded to the oxide brownish/red very quickly. It was the cheapest 'red' available, naturally!

I painted my NP 24' wood cabeese in Floquil Mineral, Tuscan, and Oxide Red to represent the various states of freshly painted to faded and weathered, as that's what I seen when looking at photos. I painted my Extended Vision cabeese in the BN Green with yellow like the photo above.

Okay, youse dirty fur-bearing, flea-bitten varmints have me all messed up now. I can either paint the WV caboose in the brown scheme [and yup there is a prototype picture] or do it in the BN merger green/yellow scheme! It's going behind a RS1, so what's your opinions? {And yes, I do know what that can let myself in for!] Because that Green Yellow scheme is gorgeous.

I would do the green and yellow scheme. The brown one is boring, and don't really look like an NP caboose.

Yup, I think you are right. And the decals coming in will do either. Time for some white primer.
