Can you imagine vehicle exhaust, if gas had an onion odor? The freeways would smell like fast food. If your car had a malfunction, it would not hiccup or backfire, it would burp.... If it was not running well, you'd take it to a mechanic for a diagnosis of indigestion......
Every time I watch an old movie, any movie really in the recent or not recent past. Especially like 40's, 50's, 60's. 70's, 80's 90's movie when they show a gas station, I try to see if the gas prices are in the shot? Most of the time they are not. Wonder why? Maybe advertising reasons?
I was thinking exactly the same thing before I read your post... and had a good laugh. So next time you ask for a fill up, ask to hold the onions.
I just had a memory flashback... There are some people who make "bio-diesel" fuel out of used cooking oil from fast-food restaurants... Onion Oil was way ahead of their time!
Chambless Camp, Calif. U.S. 66. Red Crown gas station, cabins, and cafe & store. It is now a ghost town. In the middle of the Mojave Desert 90+ years ago it looks a bit like the Old West.
Is that a Pontiac? Beautiful car! I like how there's 3 gas stations in this shot too, that's a lot of competition on that corner!
'60 Oldsmobile. It depends on how you feel about big booty, I guess. Take the trunk lid off and you'd have quite a pickup.
A buddy of mine had a 60 Olds back in high school. He had that massive rear end jacked up early 70s style. I can't even begin to describe the way that looked.
Hope he had side mirrors. Probably couldn't even see a Mack truck in the rear view, unless it was a cabover.
Mine was a 4 door hardtop Buick, then a '63 2 door hardtop. When I returned from vacation in southeast Asia the new wife changed me over to a '65 VW Bug. What a change!!
