Sorry I'm late, folks, I was driving home from a week in St Paul, MN. Amtrak 8 at last light, seconds from sunset, at MP 14, BNSF Glasgow Sub: BNSF Northgate Local at CP2030, obtaining track warrants for the Crosby and Niobe Subs as it proceeds west: CP 148 rattles the Railroad Museum of Minot around breakfast time: CP 148's DPU was a grimy 'Belle SD70ACe:
Why oh why did I leave British Columbia and come home to the Texas Gulf Coast furnace? Longing for the nice cool breezes in the temperate rain forests of the Pacific coast.
That Amtrak shot is beautiful Hemi! Love that BC scenery and it's a few degrees cooler over my way but the humid heat is making it miserable outside so feel your pain Russell Speaking of heat, here's a shot from a few years back in the desert just west of Victorville CA. These twin bridges are one of my favorite spots between Victorville and Barstow but there is a power substation right behind me and the security people don't take kindly to letting you shoot there.
If you weren't late you wouldn't have the shot to share. I was thinking of how to put it nicely, but sucker comes to mind. The funny thing is we lived in a mild coastal valley of Ca for years and I always told the wife that we would never move to the Inland Empire. We've been here for 23 years now and the heat is always something to solve for in most activities. Nice catch. When I ran routes through the area I always enjoyed the stretch of Nation Trails Highway from the Narrows to Hellandale. I believe this set of bridges is gone now as the BNSF realigned the trackage to make room for the proposed intermodal yard(never came to be) near Adelanto.
From this afternoon, CSX local Y102 arriving off the former ACL at Columbia, SC. The 6918 is a former C&O GP-40-2.
OK, I give up. Looks standard to me. I thought that other than the logos, the only difference was the H2 had Pullman Green on top and bottom and the H3 was black.
Aging paint on the older unit? In the more recent photo, 4151 looks decidedly faded compared to 8080's fresh look. And that's nothing compared to the Bonnet in the other photo! Poor girl... My hair fades with age too. In hue and density...
The 5389 is clean, and I think the lighting makes parts of the black on top look a little greenish. Threw me off a bit, too.
As a native to the Pacific NW person, someone who was, long ago, resident of NW Louisiana and west Texas, I was never so happy as to get back up north again and leave such warmth forever behind!!!
