Ya'll I gotta level with ya, I just got used to putting 2023 on things and it's almost over! How did THAT happen? The northern lights werew out last night, although the geomagnetic storm improved considerably after I left (naturally), so we'll revisit a few oldies. Let's go back in time to April of this year and an incredible aurora borealis light show. Lonetree, ND and a 14-axle geometry train (not that you can tell), as the lights were just beginning to dance: The shot I went out for, Amtrak 8 at track speed: The afterthought going away taillight shot that turned into the shot of the day (night):
Driving up to the Armadillo Ranch before Thanksgiving I saw a high rail vehicle tailgating a train just north of Hearne, Texas. Days later, I got to pace a train just south of town along Highway 6.
On Sunday, 11/26/23, NS 19G has finished its work in Spring Street yard in Reading, PA. The westbound is heading through Wyomissing JCT en route to Enola. Most BNSF visitors are pumpkins these days.
Um, steam? Light Rail is *electric*. I'm about 10 min from 'McLean Station'. Should get some Saturday morning. Hmm, Wait, *think* we get our electricty from coal, so, ya, Steam. ♣
I know what light rail is. In Montreal's case (the "REM"), it's not only electric, it's trouble-prone, noisy, incomplete, and over budget. We got the whole enchilada! And that's just the Central Station to Brossard line that's running. My steam comment did seem to get your boiler pressure up... Good thing I didn't say "dang the torpedoes"
Good morning everyone. ☻ Fog so thick this morning I can't see a 20 story tower that is less than a 1/2 mile from me. Well, off to the light head. er, rail.
Edit: McLean VA 'Metro' on a foggy Saturday morning. The "Capital One' 20 story building is just beyond the Metro. These photos were taken using Memory: I have been there many times Sound: I could hear it but not see it I knew were it was relative to me and the traffic but only took the pics when I could hear it coming. 8:18AM 8:25 8:36 Pics got easier as sun burned through. Side Story: In my first couple of months here and 'everything looked the same' I would orient myself on the sound of the Metro. It has different sounds in other locations. Side Note: For adventure try crossing that interesection...at rush hour...with a blindfold and a white cane. Um, did you ever play 'Frogger'? It never ends well for the frog. SPLAT! ☻ Edit: BTW, I never tried. Darwin said, 'No'. 'Justin Case' said, "I'm with Darwin."
Just curious. How much are you still able to see? A good friend of mine suffered from macular degeneration but still had some peripheral vision.
