On the road, so here's a shot of a southbound UP freight south of Houston, at Webster, TX. Check out the crossing light setup, it's huge! An eastbound back home at dawn, while a westbound waits:
That must be impressive at night, with all those lights blinking, including the ones on the barriers themselves! They really wanted to make sure everyone understood it's time to stop.
Russell can probably tell us better but I think that is one that's been built extra heavy duty to be able to withstand Hurricanes, the storms, not the drinks.
From 08/31/1990 at Birmingham, AL, CSX tonnage is crossing the SOU main and rolling south on the former L&N toward Montgomery. I shot this from the steps of NS's 14th Street Tower which was closed at the time. CSX calls the same location 13th Street. The tower has since been demolished.
I'm standing on the one-time loading dock of the Christiana, PA ex-PRR freight house, this morning, 30 March 2024. First Amtrak 662 rolls East towards Philadelphia, followed shortly by 661 heading West towards Harrisburg on the Keystone Corridor. The passenger station across the tracks last saw service in 1958. The freight house has been restored by the Lancaster NRHS chapter. I was overdue to get some Amtrak action.
