9. int. Z-track weekend in Altenbeken, Germany, 4.-5. may 2024 Are you going to visit? I hope I can go there. Link to forum: 4. / 5.Mai 2024: 9. Int. Spur-Z-Weekend Altenbeken; Mitteilungen des Veranstalters - Z-Freunde International e.V. (z-freunde-international.de)
Well, it's OK that because Z scale originates from Germany, it's a mostly German oriented event. But if it really is to become an international event, the location has to be changed to a major german city with an airport so that visitors could have little efforts reaching the area and finding a hotel instead the need to go to to a remote german village.
It's central for the Germans It's a three hours 15 minute trainride from Frankfurt Int. Airport. To the Eggelandhalle it is less then 15 minute pleasant walk. Around 3 hours drive by (rental) car from the airport as well. Regional hotel facilities are very affordable but you have to start booking soon. I will be there. Highly recommended, all Z and a lot of nice folk. Matt
Hi Joe fyi It is a question of prices. ZFI is the organizer, we are a assosiation with 130 +/- members, who paid a fee. We must see, where is the best place to organice a meeting. Altenbeken is a small town in the middle of Germany. Here a all the prices moderate for the hall and the "Hotels" around. Also lives a board member nearby, he knows the right poeple If we plant these meeting in Frankfurt (Convention town, 1. international Airport in Germany and the highest prices for "Hotels), we need a lot of money more and we had in this time no members in Frankfurt.
I am currently preparing my modules for this exhibition. I couldn't set up more to test, otherwise I would have to go into the garden We still don't have final confirmation of participation, but our overall layout should look like this: the 4 meters on the right are the modules from the photo...
I wish the NMRA would pick small towns that were a 3 hour train ride from major airports for their National Conventions. Instead they choose the most expensive venues they can find. I forgot my deodorant at the Texas NMRA National and had to pay $21 for a small stick and every meal was $50+. I spent a couple thousand dollars and saved by sharing a room. The Altenbeken weekend sounds like a great choice for a venue.
Robert, I am staying at a basic but nice and clean family pension near Altenbeken; single room plus full breakfast, 2 nights, 107 US-Dollars... (very affordable also to European standards) Matt
Good morning I will be in Altenbeken with my small layout "Heinzenberg" (yellow), an original replica of the Heinzenberg train station from the old "Weiltalbahn" railway line in the Taunus, north of Frankfurt, which was closed in 1969. Here you find more information (sorry, only in german) http://www.1-220-modellbahn.de/Anlage16_00.html We startet at 1. of May from Croatia to Altenbeken I would be happy to meet some Zetties from the Trainboard .
That was another great event in Altenbeken. I don't think I've met any of you, have I? Maybe you missed our modules because of the variety of great things there.
Weather was good and attendance was up-to-earlier years! The Hall has been refreshed and well lighted. Mickie and I met with many we knew and, new too. Alex was surrounded with buyers. Mickie picked up more custom figures. Before the meet, we met Alex & family along with Holger Späing for BBQ. Then moved to the Herford country side for The OWL’s to see new layout change snd run an OPS session. John of Buckly of Golden Hawk & Central City RR Museum (Mr. Dave) to study DCC operations and install a decoder in the SD40-2 and . . .clean track ;( I will post when I get into better location as we are out in the countryside. Out in the rural Germany until 15 May.
