I have been following this thread and can't wait to see these shells painted and finished! Would anyone be willing to share photos for a Ztrack article? I think would make a good piece to share with the readers. I love how the project came to be. Also, if anyone is looking for SD70s, we have 2x UP SD70s in the resale shop. These are from 2x different collection, but both are in great shape. They clients are asking $170.00 which is a nice saving from the Ztrack direct price of $215.00. I have one listed on resale, the other just came in. If anyone is interested, just let me know. Ztrack Resale: AZL: Locomotives Rob
Rob, I'd be willing to set up some photos and write up an article. If that would be ok with everybody else. Why don't you send me an e-mail and we can talk more. BTW those SD70Ms found a new home. :tb-wink:
And speaking of ACes, let's not forget the externally identically shaped SD70M2s. Some interresting paintschemes: for example Florida East Coast, or Canadian National.:tb-wink: Dom
I have to agree with Dom, they are quiete similar apart from some louvers and hatches on the left side of the cab, close enough in my opinion.
I finished building 3 of mine tonight. I added a bunch of details and made a few mods to the shells. Hmm they look pretty good sitting on the test track. Thanks again guys. :tb-biggrin: I'm just waiting on decals now before I paint... who's making decals again?
Myself I'm currently in contact with Gerd, he's working on my Chiapas Mayab decals for my project Geep. No problem, he's on the line! Dom
I have not emailed anyone back taking new projects yet, as I have 6 big orders in process, leaving no time for anything, and I just spent the past few weeks refinancing my house, which required some major hat tricks and circus acts to complete. The doors for Eddie's boxcars is an easy one that I offered up, only because they are already drawn and just needed to be re-cut with the thinner material. If i have to do any design work, I won't have time for those projects for months. In my spare time I am researching and building a long gone drive in theater for the museum's N Scale layout. Did I say spare time? I have 3 of the ACe shells myself, but have not had time to do more than look at them.
Rob's new priorities are are to take a break and work on his own module, one of the BAZ BoyZ only new modules in over a year. Some of you saw the preview at Z Convention but that was just a start. He, Hien, Chris and I are also involved in the rapid build up of the N scale layout in the Nice Depot, with an ambitious goal of end of year. We're doing great. Hence Rob's note about the movie theater. Rob does a lot of work for you guys that take just about all of his free time. Seriously. So hang in there, he and I keep an eye out for new interesting stuff. .
Whats on my workbench, a rough running SD70. It took me a weeks of following the chassis around in my layout with a flashlight to find out whats wrong with it, and it took me another week to find a solution.
John, Would you care to share what the problem was and your solution? Might help out others who own SD70s.....
No rush. I just wanted to make sure you were ok and there was not a e-mailing problem or mixup. Take care! :tb-biggrin:
I decided I can paint this myself. I have found prototype pictures and have lots of detail. I found that the dark green that BNSF used changed to black when they went with the "swoosh" idea. What color orange is this? And where can I find decals? I know that Robert Ray is too busy right now.
David, I'm sure I can help with the decals if you do the homework and send me pictures and dimensions. I still have my Alps printer...
Thanks Lajos. I will send what I can. If I give you certain dimensions of the shell, will that be close enough?
