As mentioned, here's a quick book review: Structures of the Moffat Tunnel Vol. 1 Copyright 1991, Matthew J. Neimes Published by: Matthew J. Neimes Lakewood, Colorado Published with help from the Moffat Tunnel commission and the Denver Water board. who allowed access to files and to make copies of original drawings, so book could be published. 26 pages in all. Covers ALL parts of the Moffat Tunnel. Contents: East Portal: Engine and Fan house East Portal: 1st floor plan East Portal: 2nd floor plan East Portal: Cross-section East Portal: East elevation and cross-section East Portal: North & South elevations East Portal: Door, window & stair details Snow Shed Tunnel details West Portal: Railroad structure West Portal: Plan, elevation, section and details West Portal: Site plan and bridge details Water Tunnel structures East Portal: Bridge and Bronze plaques East Portal: Site plan, end-wall & Channel details East Portal: Stilling basin details West Portal: Pump house The East Portal section describes the initial construction of the tunnel, by the contractor, Hitchcock and Tinkler. Also describes study errors regarding wind direction and ventilation of tunnel. Also how the curtain was operated, until automated during WW2. Includes a good explanation of how the ventilation system worked, prior to the 1980's upgrade of the vent fans and structure. Indicates what changes were made, as vent fans and supporting structures were updated. Contains only One photo, of the East Portal. But, includes detailed drawings, of each section of the tunnel structure. Some drawings reproduced in HO Scale, but most reproduced in N Scale, because of drawing size! However, drawing dimensions are accurate, and can be used in other scales, without problems! West Portal section also includes One photo of the portal. Includes more information about proposed venting system, and what was to have been. Including brief comment on doors, to keep animals/people out of the tunnel. A brief paragraph on the bridge that crosses the access road at Winter Park, as well as a brief paragraph regarding maintenance of the tunnel over the years. Again, includes detailed drawings, of both tunnel portal, as well as bridge details, or steel bridge that crosses over Hwy 21, now the Winter Park access road. The water tunnel section provides details on the construction. As well as financing of both tunnels. Includes how the water channel works, for water exiting the water bore. This section also includes detailed drawings of each section of the water channel, stiiling basins adn West Portal pump house. Overall, a very well detailed description of the Moffat Tunnel. With the all of the original tunnel drawings in the book, even though in various scales, a scaled down model of both portals could be built. Clearly stated, that copies CAN be made, by Original purchaser only, for aide in building all, or part, of the Moffat Tunnel. As like many books, this particular book is no longer in print. I was lucky, to have gotten my copy when I could!

Source of Structures of the Moffat Tunnel Hey everyone interested. I'm Matt Neimes, the author and publisher of the book "Structures of the Moffat Tunnel - Vol 1". I sold many copies wholesale to The Colorado Railroad Museum and Caboose Hobbies over the years. It was published with less than 1000 copies printed. I still have many left. The first 200 were signed and numbered, with the remaining just numbered. Please contact me at rockymtnmemorabilia@hotmail.com I will also be listing some on Ebay.
There is a link to "Train Store" in the header at the top of each page. In the gray bar above the "Terms of Service" bar there is a "Place An Ad" on the far right.
Gee. I'm only twelve years late to this thread...but just wanted to point out: denvermatt's link in post #12 above--where to purchase his book--is still working.
