The new version of vBulletin that we are upgrading to this week has a mobile device suite. If you use a mobile device and are interested in accessing the site this way and would like to help us raise $199 to purchase the mobile device suite, please consider making a donation. We have a new subscription option on our support page. Please have a look. If you don't know what this means, disregard. Charlie
Can you post examples of what a forum would look like in various mobile phones (iPhone, Android, Blackberry)? Obviously it's not going to be pics of Trainboard, but if you have examples of what the basic GUI would look like then that would help.
We don't have screenshots yet but we will try to come up with something if we can get it for you to look at. Charlie
If it's like the multitude of forum apps now out there, it will be a very stripped-down version of the forum. No avatars, no photos, text only, and you will have to figure out what subforum you want to go to. No newest posts, no portal page. I've had "issues" with many of them, hopefully this app won't be another. My list of forums I can visit on my iPhone without raising my blood pressure is getting distressingly short.
We are at $30 on this so far. Thanks folks. For those of you that are not sure of the quality of this, I cannot say for sure but I assume that it will be like the rest of the forum in quality and will improve over time. Charlie
Can you explain the advantages (beyond the fact that it's from vBulletin) of this over Tapatalk? I know tapatalk ignores custom styles. My understanding was that Tapatalk was free to turn on. (I know on the board I support we didn't pay anything for it. Is it from within the browser or is it an App. Does it support WebOS? OK, I admit, I didn't watch the video, just watched it. Looks like iPhone and Android only. Apps not in browser. looks slicker than tapatalk. Is the App free to download or does it also cost money? I already use Tapatalk and have paid for it, so if I'm going to be selfish, I'd prefer that. But if there's a good reason to spend the extra money, I'll support it.
The app is free: http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/vbulletin-mobile/id401734344?mt=8 Free screenshots on the product page too.
Donation sent. There are those who use phone other than the iPhony, and a mobile suit makes a lot of sence. We had this for a while on the Railwire and I found it useful. Can't wait to see the new site on my WP7 device!
Now at $50. Thanks! Contributors so far: r_i_straw, Tracy McKibben, daniel_leavitt2000, CMStP&P Charlie
I will pledge another 10 bucks, but this poor college student has to wait for bills to clear before actually sending off the payment.
Username : SecretWeapon Subscription : Mobile Device Suite Donation Amount: 10.00 USD Thanks Mike! Almost 1/3 there. $60 of $199
Like Mark, I need to wait for a paycheck before I can help out. I'd still like to get an Admin's opinion of this over Tapatalk. Again, selfishly, I'd like to manage all the vB forums I visit from 1 app.
I understand. This is the product that VB is offering. I must confess that at this time, I do not use these devices. I would, but where I live in Maine, service is so spotty that my cell phone is almost useless. If you want details, you might want to check at the vbulletin.com or vbulletin.org forums for information from users that have these products. Charlie
I understand, maybe I'll go look, I was just confused, because Tapatalk is free to install into vB and widely used and has been around a while. I guess it's a support thing at this point.
We are still at $80 folks. I have added a new $5 donation level to this and maybe that is a better option for some folks. If you are a mobile device user, this is for you. Charlie
