Ken, I get the same No Permission message as before..."You do not have permission to view this page or perform this action." Rick, thanks for letting me know I'm not alone with this issue.
https://xenforo.com/help/permissions/ https://xenforo.com/help/administrators/ Script Restricted Permission Mask under Admin Console => Configuration => Server => Security. Possibly. But, since Ken is an Admin, he should be able to see those permissions following the links and see what is there.
Now this is interesting. If I inspect the Cattle Car in the peach area, I get http://www.trainboard.com/highball/index.php#the-cattle-car.147 If I shift down into the area below it and inspect Cattle Car, I get http://www.trainboard.com/highball/index.php?forums/the-cattle-car.148/ If I click on the top one, for me it just sits there and goes nowhere. In fact, I waited long enough and it defaulted back to the main forum pages. Highly interesting.
Another interesting thing. Any of the forum titles in the peach coloured areas...starting at the top....when clicked, it jumps that forum header to the top...I can scroll it back into place, but that's what they do..EXCEPT for the last two... TrainBoard Special Features and The Cattle Car, which stay put. Don't move. Something is different with the code on those two. Hank...what happens if you try to open TrainBoard Special Features? Dave
Dave, both the TrainBoard Special Features and the Cattle Car pop up as high as possible until the screen hits its lower limit at the bottom of the page, which is what I would expect. What is different between the two is that TBSF has two sub-forums listed beneath the peach bar, TrainBoard Extra and Computers & Trains. Whereas the CC has no sub-forums listed. Now this may be correct if there are no sub-forums in the CC currently, but this I doubt remembering the previous system. I find the following HTML when I Inspect the CC peach bar. Obviously the CC link is written as ".147". Being unfamiliar with HTML, I don't where to look for or recognize the "Permission" test, though nothing appears obvious. <li class="node category level_1 node_147" id="the-cattle-car.147"> <div class="nodeInfo categoryNodeInfo categoryStrip"> <div class="categoryText"> <h3 class="nodeTitle"><a href="index.php#the-cattle-car.147">The Cattle Car</a></h3> <blockquote class="nodeDescription baseHtml">Off-topic discussions</blockquote> </div> </div> <span class="tlc"></span> <span class="trc"></span> <span class="blc"></span> <span class="brc"></span> </li>
Yeah, that's the html I found. The last two do NOT jump to the top for me. I can get into both. You cannot get into at least Cattle Car. Those permission deals were for out admin, Boxcab. He can access xenforo, without hacking, we cannot. Dave
Dave, try placing the TBSF peachbar at the absolute bottom of your screen before clicking on the header. The bar should pop up a little, at least until the CC peach is visible. The remaining analysis we are best leaving to Charlie, Ken, and/or the other Anointed Ones..... Hey, that's why they're paid the "Big Bucks"....
Absolute bottom, no jump. Not even a little. But, I can open that forum, and you can't, so what does that mean?
More interesting stuff. Fired up the 8.1 (modified) laptop, went to the old TB bookmark: http://www.trainboard.com/grapevine/forum.php Got this: Content Encoding Error The page you are trying to view cannot be shown because it uses an invalid or unsupported form of compression. Please contact the website owners to inform them of this problem. Okay, so changed "grapevine" out for "highball": http://www.trainboard.com/highball/forum.php Got this: TrainBoard.com - The Internet's Original - Error The requested page could not be found. So, swapped out "forum" for "index" and it worked..except: No way could I get into Cattle Car. No errors, just would not go. Why? There was just the purple (sorry..thought it used to be peach...I've changed my colours) header with "Cattle Car". I wasn't logged in. Logged in, it was all there and I could see it. Hank, I know yer logged in or you couldn't post, so I'm wondering if you need to force a refresh, clear out cookies and start again? (in FireFox, it's ctrl-shift-r) I know if you have CCleaner you can kill off specific cookies, and that doing it any other way will take you until morning, IF you can find them all. Ken, Charlie...obviously redirects are seriously broken. Dave
I logged out of both Chrome and IE11 and closed both browsers. Then ran CCleaner erasing all cookies, ensuring that TB was not among the protected few. Executed both Chrome and IE11, initiated TB, and logged in with both browsers. Still No Joy. With the complexity of Win7 and various browsers, I'm sure there's a setting on my computer somewhere that is causing this issue. However, it's beyond the long-forgotten skills of this retired geek to comprehend.
Which is why I continue to use XP. I am familiar with it, and know what it does. No idea what 7 is doing.....
Ergo, we're back to seeking the Test For Permission snake hiding in the HTML grass....far beyond my pay grade.
Ken, any progress, or is this issue still far down the priority list? I'm almost over withdrawals from the Random Photos thread, or whatever it's called.
Hank- Charlie is working on all kinds of adjustments, so am not certain where he is with the "to do" list. I have looked closely at your membership details, and did not see anything which should be causing an issue. If there is something which can be changed, it is beyond my tools.
I need to know if other people are having the same issue. However, I will look into this later tonight. Charlie
Thanks, Charlie. Rick Brodzinsky also has this issue on numerous devices and OS's, see his post of 7/13/15. BTW, I also have this issue with Firefox, in addition to Chrome and IE-11.
