Here is a couple of pics of my latest project, a BN SD7. its an ex GN unit and is long hood forward, its a Proto 2000 model detailed up to match the prototype 6008. I will post some more when I get it weathered
Very, VERY nicely done! Last time I saw one of these beasts in green & black, it was lettered for the Wyoming-Colorado RR, and sitting in Saratoga, WY three years ago. Toss in a little grime, rust, and dirt, and it'll look really nice!
Thanks Bob This was repainted quite late into BN (and concidering it was sold in early 80's) so it will be one of my cleaner units Its is mainly on the roof and trucks where the rust and grime seems to have taken hold, also the prototype pic i have of it the green is faded near the prime mover, not sure how i can re create this...... any thourghts?
Nice unit Make sure you weather those chains...I haven't seen many pictures of thiose, but in my experience, chains swing a bit with motion, and that rubs off the paint quickly...and in the right climate, the paint is still presaent but the chanis weather a bit quick too... Maybe I am wrong here...but it makes sence to me.
Very cool, and nicely modelled as well. If P2K had done their BN SD9 in that configuration rather than an ex-C&S one, I would have bought one...I do like long hood forward stuff OTOH that may be a good thing
So do I the weathering is complete now, so I will get a couple of pics taken of it
gee that makes me want to finish this... I was attempting to modify it into a late SD9 with the higher short hood and boxes. I haven't got very far if you couldnt tell benjamin
Nice work Matt!!!!! I also of all things not steam, like the high noses long hood forwards.... And must say I like the ole E units as well for first generation diesels! I still think the SD-7/9 or the GP-30, are my 2 favorites. I can't pick between the 2! The high noses just for that in SD or GP and the GP-30 with the dynamic brake blister "mean" look.. sure caught my attension! [ 28. July 2002, 21:27: Message edited by: 7600EM_1 ]
Thanks everyone here is the weathered pics. I am not doing any more locos for the time being, I am going to get some of my freight cars detailed up now, you can see a couple of boxcars in the background of one of the pics, an Athearn Boxcar and a MDC one. I am replacing all moulded grabs/ladders and adding cousion underframes (where needed) also coupler cut bars and air hoses. to them, oh and on any car with walkways they going to have etched ones added. The next loco that is booked in is an Atlas S4, which when the decals arrive it will be painted in patched Northern Pacific. Ill keep ya posted
Very nice! The boxcars look a fun project as well... Benjamin, like the look of your one as well, keep us posted with how that goes, I'd noticed that some of these had a higher short hood, but hadn't realised the cab was taller as well...let us know how it goes, it's looking good at the moment
Its just a shame about those 4 letters on it...... BNSF You will get it finished now wont you, and not leave it as long as I have my GP39M & V's
