    Hey Deablo,

    Welcome to Trainboard!

Have a look around the forums, and don't hesitate to ask questions or even put your 2 cents' worth in from time to time. We're a pretty friendly bunch here, and we try to be as flame-resistant as possible.

I don't hang out at those other forums you mentioned, but I'm aware they're out there. I hope you feel at home here.

Once again, welcome, and highball, y'all! :D

    Hey Deablo,

I have read your posts on the Atlas forum so I'm familiar with you [IMG] And welcome to this discussion board! I don't post here that often, but then again, I really don't post anywhere very often (except the pfmsig and bnsf modelers yahoo groups). Let us know what you model, what your areas of expertise are, what you'd like to know more about, anything that's on your mind. Like the other fellas said, this place is pretty much free of flames and the tone is always eagerly friendly.

In welcoming you I realized I haven't done what I have asked you to do: that is, list your interests, so for the record, here are mine:

    Railroads:
    </font>
    • Merger era UP-MP-WP</font>
    • Merger era NS</font>
    • BN, SF, and BNSF</font>
    • The occasional SP and D&RGW</font>
    • The modern UP and NS</font>
    • and my own creation, the Pine Valley Railroad</font>
    Activities:
    </font>
    • Scratchbuilding</font>
    • Kitbashing</font>
    • Custom Painting</font>
    • Weathering</font>
    • Developing my freelanced railroad's line and history</font>
    • Keeping up with my Excel Model Railroad Inventory</font>
    • Going back and detailing all the stuff I've collected</font>
    • and modern day graffiti on railcars</font>
So, that about does it. I'm not an expert in anything, but I'm working on it!

Welcome both of you Deablo and ProtoModel, to the TrainBoard family!

Pull up a flat car and have some chit-chat about trains, real or model, even photos and wild true (probably fiction) tales of the real rails!

Perhaps you can help solve some of the questions floating around here lately. Most of us are into "N" scale , a few are into "HO", and "G" or "S" and there are live steamers. Some are still fighting the DC/DCC questions.

We have kids, children, young fellas, ladies, mature master builders, and a couple of old duffers, so you should fit right in somewhere! :D

    Wow, fast response time!

Hummm, areas of expertise I guess I could say, that I am kind of new, but I think my nich is track laying, electrical, and electronics. I'm running Atlas DCC, and I would like to upgrade to Lenz soon. I model HO, thats why I put it here, I think, I'm not used to the format here. I'm good with computers. I don't have any other hobbies anymore, They impeded into the train funds :D I have never done any costum detailing on locos, but I have an Athearn GP-38 in the mail, that I will be doing. That is about it, oh yeah, one question, who was in charge of comeing up with this picture, and what do I use it for? [IMG] LOL

Charlie came up with all those "funny" gifs for us to use in our posts just as you have done. [IMG] He is always looking for something to improve the TrainBoard, so we are always looking for ways to thank him, and support him in any way we can. [IMG] Having these to use, and being able to post photos here, adds to everyone's enjoyment of this site. This is the best railroad site I know of for Railroad men, modelers, fans, and photographers, that I have found! The expression most people have the first time they come here is: [IMG] Fun isn't it? :D

Anyway fellas. Welcome to the HUGE family of TRAIN crazies here at TrainBoard.....

Maybe you'd better leave phone numbers for next-of-kin, just in case something does happen! :D

I can see the headlines now: Railroad Buff Loses Cool, Lets Off Steam And More When Crown Sheet Blows!

Maybe you need to take a cold shower now and again. That might help...

Finally, a model railroader younger than me! I'm 29 and have been the token "kid" at every model railroad club meeting I've ever attended. I was wondering when it would end!

    RC,
Yeah I'm 24. Just turned it a month ago. But I've been doing my own "custom" work for a long time. Like 11 years! I began doing scale work in 1991. And been at it ever since! But I've collected HO scale ever since I was 2! So I have quite the collection! But I own my own shop now! I do my own, custom work, repairs, you name it. I do it. I get alot of HO scale stuff.. but I do all the other scales as well! So.. I LOVE my job! :D Takes time to get as far as I got. Started out under an Aprenticeship and went on from their!

    Pat,
Thats a pretty good news paper article! HA! I can see it now! :D

I have a slight problem with the knowledge and giving it to the next of kin.. I only have one relative thats into modeling. But, a cousin, that wouldn't know the first thing of repairs, custom work etc.... Hes just a collector more or less that likes to run what he gets, hes not into fixing or custom making them. I do all his work! So the knowledge hopefully someday will passed onto my kids. Being it was passed on to me from a close friend that took me in under apprenticeship to teah me that was like a greandfather to me, and he passed away last year in June.... So now, I carry on what he taught me on my own....

HA! We get younger here! I will be 21 october 22nd...and soon I will finaly be able to find out what you guys mean by "a good cup orf brew!" I am not cheating on this, I will wait until I am considered responsible enough before I touch it.

I put my firt model kit together when I was about 8, a really nice 34 wood street rod that was moree old fashined then street rod, that means now I have about 13 years experience working with paintbrushes, paint, glues, plastics, woods, you name it. I still need ot learn how to solder better, and how to work with brass. I am still no where near where I want to be.

But this gives me hope...I think , in another ten years, I should be able to build my first "furry critter creek," probably "wildcat landing" or something like that, granted I have the real estate to put it on....has to have wildcat in it somewhere! Flatcar Pictures

Ralph I am not aware of what events transpired at the RRline forum but here at trainboard our forums are moderated 24 hours a day as our administrators and moderators live around the world.

We do not tolerate flaming by any member. Any flame is quickly removed or the membership cancelled by trainboard staff.

I get the feeling that most of the participants at TrainBoard are pretty much self-moderating, so any 'spoilers' show up very clearly.

I actually frequented RRLine a few months ago for a couple of weeks, in parallel with TB and a few Yahoo! specialist groups. Didn't see much actual flaming, but there were certainly some 'characters' ;) and plenty of friction  .

I felt that a big problem was the moderators themselves were not very moderate, either in their attitudes or volume of posts. It was more or less a spectator sport [IMG] . I abandoned that forum because it seemed to be full of heavy personal opinions without much factual/useful content. Coincidentally at the time I 'left' it seemed most of the moderators were resigning in a huff, but I couldn't quite work out what it was all about. It certainly didn't have the professional feel that TrainBoard has [IMG] .

Have to echo and second what Mike said. I was on RR line and it had little modeling and a lot of personality picking, especially between moderators. can't say I am surprised.
