Steam or diesel, the little guys did their share of important work. This tiny 0-4-0 worked an assignment at a PRR-owned tie plant in PA and the li'l diesel is an EMD Model 40, one of only 11 built in the early 1940s.
That's one wacky homebuilt job. Looks like someone welded together a dumpster and half a cab to a truck from something or other. What worries me is the big fissure in the truck frame...
Wow, neat, deep in the anthracite fields. I think it's since been removed and donated to a nearby township for cosmetic restoration and display. I don't know of its current status though.
The REAL scary part was that this was powered by an extension cord that in later years, was pretty frayed-you could see AND hear the shorting against anything it touched!
