From July 1976 at Hudson, OH. With those position light signals in view, there's no doubt about the heritage of this line. The 2438 is a C-425. Conrail is just over three months old.
@MetraMan01 - I spent several nights at Tachikawa Airforce Base back in 1964 on my way to a 13 month tour in Korea! Never saw the town.
The town is pretty busy now-I believe some of that base has been turned into a park and the JSDF operates on the rest of the base still there. Lots of 10-12 story buildings. It’s so busy there is an entire pedestrian walkway system at about the third floor level to keep the foot traffic out of the streets. You can walk for a few of blocks in any direction without going down to the ground floor. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
From 06/13/1997, a westbound at Dalies, NM looks like a newly unboxed train set. That's the line to Albuquerque at left. Not sure if I posted this Dalies shot before. [10/23/1996] /
That was my first reaction, especially with that blindingly bright GP30 at the point. Looks like it's straight out of the box.
Incredible! Love those early CR shots, Hardcoaler. I've been looking for pictures of my late grandfather, Glen Leipply, at work. He was a conductor on PRR-CR, retiring on disability sometime on the early 80s. He worked out of Youngstown, OH is most direction, and mainly to-from Conway, PA. Got anything in that area? He always wore a stereotypical striped set of coveralls and matching hat. He was always well-dressed and took pride in his work and appearance. This is one of the shots I bagged before Snowmageddon shut down North Dakota with 4 feet of snow in the middle of April. Westbound grain loads are underway just west of Soo Tower.
Thank you. Unfortunately, I don't have any photos from that region. That was a very busy piece of railroad even into the 1980s with ore, coke and steelmaking still going strong. I sure hope you're able to find something. That's a notable family connection to have.
Followed by a Dirty KCS GP40-2L in Gulfport, MS. This is part of a pair that works the port and handles some of the back and forth to Hattiesburg.
If I measured correctly, the cab is the same width as the standard ones that preceded it. The nose however, now that is wide. But "wide nose" does not sound very glamorous. It does provide more space for the toilet in addition to better crash protection.
Hoped to catch NS 15R this afternoon crossing the Catawba River at Rock Hill, SC, but was thwarted by someone driving their automobile into cars on NS 12R, messing up both 12R and 15R's schedules. I had to settle for a "going away" shot of a late 12R and gave up on the "coming at me" shot of 15R I wanted because it was now very late or had been annulled. Oh well, I'll try again another day. This marks the second time within a week where there's been a local collision between an automobile and a train. The first one was fatal.
