Consists are very helpful, are there any good resources for train numbers that the Milwaukee ran, and what kind of service/equipment it was?
You would need to pinpoint an era, to get a more specific consist. Then know a particular time of year, as more cars would be added, or removed.
Book one is subtitled "the Pioneer limited, the Hiawathas, and other speedsters". The "charts" take 2 forms.......some list the train (either name or number) and what types of cars would appear in the consist. Others are date specific and list what actual cars were in the consist that day. For example it shows for the northbound Pioneer Limited on 7/5/32 the loco was 4-6-4 #6408, followed by express car 1032,coach 4102,coach 4004,sleeping car Lacrosse, drawing room/sleeping cars Nagawicki and Wausau, Buffet/library/club car Hennepin, ect. There are also a few timetables with departure and arrival times for all the stops
Interesting. I have a few old books about the milwaukee, but I guess my best chances to get a good equipment list is just searching online for reputable sources or something like car builder's cyclopedia. I have a 1940 copy, but contemplating buying a few from the 50s and 60s to see differences and such
How many MILW cars were built by Pullman? You might be able to find more technical information in the Official Pullman-Standard Library book series. I have the Illinois Central edition from when I was working on the Green Diamond, and it has drawings for each car and consists for most regular trains with car classes and applicable car numbers.
