Welcome back everyone. I hope you all had a great weekend, let's see how we did.

Friday: Was a long, cold and wet day. Not the best for airplanes but the Athearn booth was doing okay with many future modelers getting some Throttle time on the HO Inglenook and getting their certificate after the switching challenge.

Saturday: Round two of RC Fest. Sun was out and the weather better. With the booth set up, I rode the motorcycle in while my wife (also a Horizon employee) drove in a bit later. More crowds and more folks. We had a steady line of kids of all ages wanting to try the HO Inglenook. By 3:00pm I had almost lost my voice. At 6:00pm we took down the Athearn display, grabbed dinner, I rode the bike back then came back for the night RC airshow and fireworks before heading home.

Sunday: We both slept in. I got up eventually and worked on the NTrak module. I got the fascia finish sanded and stained as well as laid down the blue line of track including the PECO turnout. By 3:00 we left to meet Angela's co-workers and boss to see Top Gun. Ang's department was treated to this as a thank you for their work. The movie was great and made me feel like a kid again. It was nice to watch an action movie without capes and tights in it. Once home, I continued working on the module until bedtime and yup, just like that, the weekend was over.

So how about you, what did you get done? Let us know. We'll assemble again on Friday the 17th to start the process all over again. Until then, have a great week, stay safe, stay healthy and as always...

    High Greens!

    Good morning Y'all,

I had a very good weekend.

I decided to work on my Cotton Belt PA's (#'s 300 & 301) - I think, they are ready for the first color of paint. Holes for grabs, wind deflectors and horns have been drilled. Number boards have been changed, dynamic brake grids have been removed, sun shades added and diaphragms added. I'll give a final once over, to make sure I have not missed anything.

    And - as promised:

After watching the movie "White Heat", I just had to build a similar tank truck. I have no idea what color the movie truck is/was - so I chose red.

Here is what I came up with.

Tractor is from Classic Metals Works. The tank is from GHQ.

Hope Y'all had a great weekend and may Y'all have a wonderful week,
    Wolf

Greetings. Dang. Model Railroaders must think alike, lots of movie watching this weekend. The Mrs and I streamed in "Knives Out" w/ Daniel Craig Saturday night. Good movie. Based off the old "CLUE" game and Agatha Christie novels.

Good weekend of modeling. As I thought, wandering around the layout at 7:30AM Saturday AM with that first cup of coffee inspired me to ballast about 12' of double-track mainline and get to work on the grain bins at the pet food mill facility.
Saturday: Painted rails before ballasting and started on a Walthers surge bin facility letting the rails dry.
Sunday: Put down ballast and got the surge bin to about 90%. I have to add the ladders/platform and that is done. Now I have another bin to build as well as a RIX grain elevator and the grain dryer that will fit under the surge-bin. The surg-bin needs to be airbrushed and weathered as well.

    Have a great week all!!

Mooseland (TM) construction crew managed to get some things done...

Friday: Mrs. Moose finished roof on passenger depot after many long days of cutting teenie tiny roffing shingles and gluing them on... A lot of work, but looks fantastic! :) Moose made a mess of moose-self with paint... :(

Saturday: Virtually attended an NMRA layout tour by a fellow Seattle-area n-scaler, so that was kewl! Finished painting, installing windows & doors and building an elevator & stairway rooftop structure on brewery shipping building. Still trying to come up with idea'rs for a vent-thingy or other for da roof. Also painted but no finish two sky bridges for brewery. Also started painting passenger depot. Moose work hard but results make seem like Moose working at snail's pace...

Sunday: Da Mooses worked in yard, fighting them thar incomprehensibly intolerable, insufferable, indecent, inconsiderate, indigestible, inhospitable weeds... ... and then Moose made tasty ale-infused dinner and [almost] put it all behind moose-self... o_O

Monday: Day just started. Looks like rain. Prediction is finish painting brewery main building and come up with brewery steam planty thing. Hooves crossed!

Have a most excellent week everyone! :)

I got precisely 16 linear feet of my 1:1 fence building project completed. We had a heat index yesterday of 103, and high heat warnings both days. Tough to work in that except on the margins.

Our movie watching consisted of the second installment of Lord of The Rings on the big TV inside where the A/C was flowing freely. The oldest son (11) is big into fantasy fiction, and have read Tolkein's books wanted to work his way through the movies.

    Good morning all,

Friday I was at one of the big box hardware stores but instead of buying fencing lumber I picked up a portable air conditioning unit for the train room. We had temps in the 90's Friday and Saturday and having this going made the train room quite comfortable. I had already installed a discharge vent in the wall when I built the room 9 years ago so that determined the location. I am amazed by how much moisture this pulls from the air as I don't think of our area being that humid but it filled a 12 ounce bottle within a few hours.

So with the room comfortable I got a lot done on the smaller of the two sections I am working on. Track and bridge got installed on the SP line and both lines got ballast. Frame was built to support the hills. Soon I will need start preparing for the backdrop.

Some productive time watching the Redbirds and working on scenery. I posted on Saturday in another thread, but here is an other picture of progress. This is one half of a new section/module of the layout. Not seen is the other half where a trestle and small mining camp are going in. More to come....

That's awesome. Having gotten, shall we say "older", the only hot days I enjoy outdoors is at the beach with an ice cold Heineken. Beyond that, being in a cool train room doing work on the layout when it is a bazillion degrees outdoors is great. Good stuff. You'll enjoy that AC unit.

No real beaches near me. What little public access lakefront exists, looks like a bunch of mad ants crawling everywhere. But I certainly agree with the age comment AND the choice of beer! (y):D

Started yet another HOn30 gondola kit. But drifted to just having my bluetooth headphones on, as I scanned more of my BN slides from forty years ago. Enjoying having those memories refreshed! Nice having a decent scanner and useful editing programs!

"Certificates", what a great idea! And a "no tights" movie too. Sharp tank truck! Ballasts look crisp. (I think I see a square hatch covered hopper or two.) ;) And the HEAT! Sharp truss bridge. Hail to the "porta-ditioner." (y) Have I ever mentioned how cool Frisco is? I am on here later again due to forcing myself to go fishing again. So hot! The fish were wiping their eyebrows. So far, I have installed all the wheels on the frame. The front wheels are at an angle as if the car is turning. :) I think I have to go fishing again Friday. o_O Therefore, I should be able to stay in and work on the project until then. All have as cool as possible week. :D

I had the NMRA guys over judging models for Achievement Program points this morning, and after a few hours I had completed the Statement of Qualifications for 5 out of 7 required Masters Categories required for my Master Model Railroader Certificate. This was a big day for my, having spent decades working on these models. I also got one of the most difficult categories, Master Builder - Prototype Models. Very few Masters have completed this category.

Requirements: The scenic area judged has 6 models minimum of an actual railroad, using plans and/or photographs which were provided. There was at least one freight car, structure, caboose or passenger car and a locomotive. Two of the models were scratchbuilt with four different types of models represented and the remainder were super detailed. The 6 models were displayed in a realistic scene or on modules large enough to represent a total railroad scene.
Here is a photo of the scenes submitted to the NMRA, from my Lester, WA modules representing the summer of 1957:

    Lester Yard 1.jpg

    Lester Yard 2.jpg

Every model on the two T-Trak-Z Modules scored over the 87.5 merit points, and counted towards the SOQ of their respective categories. I am so happy, as I have been working on these 2 modules towards my Master Builder - Prototype Models for over two years.

Trains related was the job of fixing a 20+ year old Dremel tool. Last Wednesday I tried using it and the drive shaft broke. It required Torx tools and I didn't have the smallest so off to hardware store. Mine has a the price tag on it for $44 and the new was $104. So I called Dremel and was told they only sell and not fix. While on the phone she gave me what to look for on Amazon. While she said it I typed and there they were. You could buy ten tiny plastic sleeves or just two for $11 plus shipping.
I got them Sunday evening and the Dremel came apart. The plastic sleeve was just a pile of tiny fragments. It took some time and a magnifier with lights but this antique man managed. The spindle lock was a lot of fun. Like what I've seen on here about assembling couplers. That taught me I'm not up to doing that in the future. But now it runs again.
I learned a bit about doing such tiny stuff including attempting to layout a circuit for bicycle light system. Go MODULARE.

Did not get a lot done this weekend, did not feel like building a lot of stuff, but I did manage to complete all the piping and rodding for the brake system on a Tichy War Emergency Gon, with all the open area that can be seen from the side I thought it was worth it. Also started building a Bowser 1958CF Covered Hopper Kit.

Today, I saw the GP and went over everything that has happened the last few weeks and he seemed to think everything was going okay, he did modify a few of my meds, then later I got a call and met with a physical therapist who went over some excersizes I need to do, luckily many are the same as the ones I did for my hip replacement and they are not hard at all.

As predicted, I attended our church's Annual Conference in downtown Akron through Saturday, then church Sunday morning, and a trip to the Sebring Model Railroad Club Sunday afternoon. Although Father's Day isn't until next week, there were still only three of us present on a normally we'll attended day. Still, rather than doing any modelling, I spent my time catching up on accounting and membership updates from the two weeks I was not in attendance.

Sunday evening I disassembled a staple gun that was misbehaving, removed several bent staples inside, tweaked/bent some things to improve tight clearances, and got it working properly again.

Then I started an experiment to repurpose a scrap gondola into a carrier for my GoPro. I have it about half built and hope to finish it before I go to the club Tuesday evening. That may not happen however because our family has spent the better part of today (Monday) at the hospital as we say our goodbyes to my brother-in-law (who is in his early 50's) as he slips the bonds of earth.

I'll try to post pictures of the gondola camera later this week or next.

After years of wanting to remove the old dresser draws to be able to lower my layout tables to a more comfortable height for me, it is finally done. You wouldn't think 6 inches makes that much difference but it does for me. Went from 34" to 29", and it's awesome. Should be more comfortable for my old body to work on also, and lift and remove the second base or main base for working on wiring, etc... As well as be able to see the entire 50" television screen when chilling in my comfortable ( and really old ) swivel chair, but can also watch trains run too :) I can now also access my plastic container drawers to get rolling stock, locomotives, etc... Before the dresser draws were blocked by the table legs, win, win :)

    IMG_2066.jpg IMG_2067.jpg

Removed everything from bases for some wiring and adjustments. Blue tape on second base is Just Plug lights taped down while it was stored in attic. Haven't had it connected or run trains in a few month's. Now I can! It's fun too :)

    Congratulations Ray!
Your modeling skills are top notch. I love looking at photos of your work. It is amazing and in Z scale no less.

    FRIDAY
I had cardiac rehab and worked up a good sweat. When I got home I squared away my work bench.

    SATURDAY
Saturday I attempted to help my wife a little with yard work. My first time since surgery. I'm progressing well but still, I didn't last too long!

We are removing brush from around the remains of a small, circa 1812, Pennsylvania style, stone barn. All that remains is the seven foot high wall with ramp. We are going to use it as a landscape feature. It will make a nice backdrop for a future garden railroad.

After a little yard work I needed to sit down so I continued working on the styrene sidewalks and parking area for the comercial district on my little layout.

    SUNDAY

I continued on the sidewalk and parking area.
