Welcome back everyone and greetings from Galesburg IL. My weekend started yesterday at 3:00am when I got up and took Jess the railfan Jeep to railfan all the way to Galesburg. It looks last weekend a lot was accomplished by many, let's keep that theme going.

Friday: Today I plan to get a little railfanning in before meeting up with the Heritage NTrak guys for set up. We have agreed to meet, unload and get lunch, then set up and run trains till dinner. After dinner will be more railfanning.

Saturday: Day one of the show. I have a few items I am looking for in both HO and N. I'm hoping to run some older power that I have not run in many years and meet up with some old friends. More railfanning will take place after dinner and more train tales will be told with friends and a cold beverage.

Sunday: Last day of the show so any thing I missed Saturday will need to be seen / purchased today. We'll take things down at 4:00 and I'll load up Jess and head south back to central Illinois. A weekend I always look forward to.

So how about you? What do you plan on doing this weekend? Let us know. We'll assemble again on Monday the 27th to see how we all did. Until then, have a great weekend, be safe, stay healthy and as always...

    Happy Friday all!

Several things to do this weekend outside of modeling. Mostly "Harry Homeowner" maintenance type chores. HOWEVER, I should still have time for some decent modeling/layout work. I was hoping I would receive my custom curved turnout by now, but it is still in the process of being built. I wanted to work more on the elevated bridge this weekend but really need that turnout so I can finish elevated to exactly match the turnout.

So, this weekend I will probably work on buildings at Albemarle City. I am not happy w/ where the buildings mate together. Right now they look kind of "mickey mouse" to me. I need to clean that up some. Also may work more on the C&C Pet food mill grain system. Mostly finishing the elevator and airbrushing. Time permitting, I have three covered hoppers I've started. I'd like to get those finished and the base paint airbrushed on, ready for decaling.

    Enjoy the weekend all!

Good morning all. We have relatives visiting from out of state this weekend so most of the time will be spent with them. Yesterday the last of the photo backdrops arrived so if I do get any layout time I will likely be working on getting the backdrops up behind Carlin. This will be just under 12ft. Have a great weekend and I'll let you know how it went on Monday.

Still visiting family in Denver this week, so no actual modeling going on.

    Until I get back-Daydreaming/scheming:

    1) about making another small diorama to display rolling stock at work. Subject would be a propane dealer from my home town that’s across from a Metra station. As far as I can tell, the prototype propane dealer used to be rail served but isn’t now based on imagery. But it’ll be rail served in the diorama.

    2) about weathering locomotives and covered hoppers

Still recovering from the heart surgery, have had visits this week from the visiting nurse and physical therapy associate. Still doing excercises to regain my strength and get some endurance going. Saturday I am going with my wife while she gets her hair cut, she could probably go herself but with her eye problems it is helpful if I am along.

Working on a couple of kits, one an old Eastern Car Works depressed center flatcar and a Details West Combo Door boxcar. Also doing some detail parts installing on a GP35 along with revamping the running gear to match the prototype I am trying to replicate. I did manage to finish a Branchline 50' boxcar kit and got it painted, so it will get decaled this weekend. I also plan to build another Bowser 1958 CF Covered Hopper kit.

While I await delivery of the T-Trak module ordered earlier this week, (in another topic), I hope to finish scanning my Burlington Northern slides. Then start rebuilding that page on my web site. Also wanting to try the track plan changes on another T-Trak module, which I noted last weekend. IF they work, it might be an interesting little scene. I hope...

I built 2 of 8 Walthers Cornerstone "butterfly" passenger platforms yesterday. I'm going to build the Walthers Suburban Station today/tomorrow.

Would you mind sharing a description or photo of the decals in this kit and your thoughts after the build? I can’t find any legible decal images from the kit on the internet. From the Walthers site, I can see the station names “Round Lake” and “Western Ave” on the advertisement (N and HO kits) but I’m curious about the other factory decals as well as the kit itself.

Coincidentally both of the stops are real Metra stops along the Milwaukee District-North (MD-N). The kit isn’t prototypical for either stop, but it still looks pretty cool.

Saturday includes the South Texas Railroad Social (Luncheon) here in good old San Antonio. After that, going to try and turn this pile of stained lumber into a trestle (or at least make some progress):
    LC_trestle_lumber-sm.JPG

Also, while watching some baseball, I hope to make some progress on these three cars. Two are Bitter Creek boxcars for the 190x era, and a Westerfield Frisco gondola (resin kit with way too many truss rods). These don't come with trucks and I am running short. More Tahoe sets on the way...

Hope you all have a good one.

What are you using for stain? I inherited some from my Dad. It works great, but I'm not be sure what's in it.

Hey @Pastor John , I use a shoe dye mixed with IPA. I put a tablespoon or so in a quart-size bottle. Below is a photo. I think I ordered off of Amazon. The tip came from Peter Bowen(?) in an NMRA-X presentation on YouTube.

    Black-dye.jpg

I usually soak the wood for a few hours. I might have over-done this pile, as it is rather dark. Here is an example of a recent build using the same technique, but a little less dark:

Let me know if other questions.

Our son and his girlfriend are already on the road driving from Fort Hood, TX to Ohio. They'll be here sometime tomorrow if all goes well. So, today (Friday) has been spent vacuuming, carpet cleaning, and other chores with more planned for tomorrow (Saturday) so the house is presentable when our son and our potential future daughter-in-law stay with us for the week.

Sunday there is already a big family picnic planned (despite the predicted rain) so I likely won't get to the Sebring Model Railroad Club either.

I still hope to get my GoPro gondola camera sled operational and maybe play with the new (to me) GoPro Session (the smaller GoPro) that arrived today. I want to figure out how it works and see how I can use it. Hopefully, it will ride on the camera sled in it's present form, or I can fabricated a new bracket so it will.

IPA —>Isopropyl Alcohol (don’t drink :sneaky:). Usually 70% variety.

Ah, that makes a bit more sense (even if it sounds less fun).

This weekends weather looks good for more brush clean up out side. Still cleaning up what was cut last weekend.

Once again my modeling workbench looks like ground zero. After cleaning up my work bench I need to come up with a better way to control styrene swarf and filings created when cutting and shaping sidewalks by hand. I think mounting a vacuum upholstery attachment to the underside of my bench pin should work.

After the dust collection problem is taken care of I'm back to making sidewalks.

Sunday will be more brush clean up and building sidewalks.

Hope everyone has a great weekend!
