Finally got some motivation to get some work done on my wrecker kit. Was originally going to do blue on white but the spokes in the wheels which I wanted to match didn't pop like I wanted so I'll be doing red. I have to wait a few days for the enamel base coat on the cab to cure so hopefully I don't lose steam when that time comes.
A little more progress today. Still have to get decals on the cab as well as a few other parts but it's progress. I used fine EZ-line to wrap the spool and run rigging out to the back. The decals these kits come with are super fragile and the safety stripes came apart before I could apply them to the back. Wound up creating my own from some white stripes left over from another decal set. The others I put microscale decal film on so the hold together a bit better when I apply those. Looking at the photos there are some imperfections but stand off it looks pretty decent. I started this over a year ago prepped for paint and then lost interest so feeling lucky I still have all the parts.
My workbench's latest project. I will morph the C44-9 into the WABTEC 3000 BEL. I have the shell, paints, and decals. I have a new LokPilot 5 micro to install. All I need is a new KATO motor as I have been running the UP as a dummy.
well i was working on a test track type layout untill i wired pos to neg on the deeks motor shield and i did not check twice before i added power majic smoke puffed out of that darn thing. now ive got to order more.... OHH im so mad at my self for being a dumb spike . i most always check wires before i add power but not this time... lesson learned again . double check everything... i think i got that Arduino with built in wifi setup to..... i was looking forward to see if it did setup or not......

It's been a while since I weathered anything. This PFE reefer is brand new by my time period's standards, so I stared with a very light oil wash. While the oil paint cures, I can finish up the main assembly of my Trackside Transfer.
Just finished assembling 30 M/T 1015s while recuperating from COVID, flu, and shingles vax. Won't do this again, or get all 3 shots at same time !!!
On the house that I have been scratch building, I got to wondering about the windows on the upper floor. The "Old West" style false front architecture would necessitate some strange windows. I went on Google maps 3d to look at the house I am loosely basing my model on and you can see they are probably just dummy window. You can see one of them sticking out above the roof line on the wall.
A couple of "oddballs" on my mostly Alco Morristown & Erie. A couple of fun builds, but I prefer my Alco's. Cheers Steve NZ
No pic's, but a stack of Great Northern Streamline passenger cars. I want to switch out the trucks and install Micro-Trains trucks and (working) knuckle couplers. Body mounted couplers would be preferred. Sick and tired of the Rapido Couplers.
I'm assuming the "NZ" is New Zealand? Just curious how did we get from New Zealand to Morristown & Erie????? I live 30 minutes away!
It's a long story: In 1985 I was part of a crew travelling across Nth America videoing trains (and riding quite a few). We intended to stop at Morristown for a couple of hours to sort our equipment then start our 5-week cross country trek. Stayed 3 days!!!! Loved the place. Went back in 1992 to get married, back for our 20th Anniversary and were supposed to be there next month for our 30th. My avatar shows Laura & me in front of the M-1 which was Laura's bridal train!! That's the short story version. Hope to go back next year. Nice photos. Cheers NZ Steve (edit) Not sure how the photo of HMS Hood snuck in there, my apologies.
Steve, fantastic story and congrats! I took my son there when he was 4 years old. That's how I got those photos. You could get train rides then. I don't know if they still do that now.
Thank you for filling us in and sharing your story. As far as HMS Hood, a beautiful and elegant ship.
