Finished with putting loads on my flat cars. Some of the loads are from Shapeways, while the others I found on EBay. I made the wood cradles, then used silk thread for the cables. They are tied down using UV glue!
You guys got all kinds of great freight loads, they really make a flatcar pop! I remember when Hay Bros loads were all the rage, but these machine loads are very interesting.
Work has begun on a GP60 shell for the AZL chassis. It may look relatively complete but there's actually a lot more work to be done. Great work by everyone, love those loads! Steve W
Loads to look at here! Clyde, Nice work on the tie downs and cradles. Walt, Good looking designs and builds for those loads. What do you use for your flat car decking? Steve, Did you create the shell in a 3D program! It looks really good with nice details! Scott
Here is another 3D printed Depressed center flat car with four trucks! with pipe load done from a photo of the real one! View attachment 260331
The flat car with wood decks I bought from Ztrack a while back I bought all the ones, he had left about six. they seem to have real wood layed down because the surface is ruff, I just found them to be cool! I bought one set of bulkhead flat car deck wood from MTL but they were nothing like these! they all real smooth but have a wood printed surface but really thin wood! Closer look in photo1 photo 2 MTLs new wood deck for bulkhead cars!
Hi Scott, I drew it up in Fusion 360 and printed it on my Elegoo Mars 3. Thanks for the compliments! Steve W
Pretty cool Robert! Yet again another car I’ve never seen. Those obscure cars really brings a different character to a fleet. I’m surprised you’ve not made a crane wrecker set yet for NP!
Flats & Loads TTX 125ton HD Flat with gas turbine load (Metal Cast Body Parts) Kasgro 16axle HD Depressed Center Flat with large Transformer (Cast Resin Body Parts)
Very nice Tim, I really really like that 125 ton flatcar! The depressed center flat is cool too, but that 125 ton is AWESOME!
Tim, I managed to get a couple of your 125 ton flats back in the day, but I don't recall ever seeing the 16 axle before. Did you ever make more than one?
Boy I really like that depressed flat car. I enjoy the variety of loads as well. You’ll have quite the unique train.
I made one from styrene and one from cast resin complete. I have several of the cast metal end parts made, but the cast resin depressed center section was a doozie to pour. Not sure why I didn't make more. It really needs to be made using white metal too for weight. Just the depressed center is not enough. I have a few metal 60' flats for each side of the depressed car. I need a wide vision caboose to complete the scene. WORKING! Got other items on my work bench right now. Happy Thanksgiving!
