John, looks good, but trying to figure what was the original shell? from the smoke stack size I'd say it was a GP35 stretched to make a GP40. Have to be honest, don't like the colors What word comes to mind? (funeral) But you have done hell of a job on the stretch and smooth sanding job.
Harold, the front and back of the shell is from a SD40, and the middle is from a GP35. I am not too happy with the blue, but I hate painting it again. I guess I will used weathering to hide the blue. Thanks Hien
Nice Job Robert, since I know how a hard work this is, I'm effectively working too on decals all week, it is a lot of work. The research, drawing every single thing, finding the right font and all, Phew! Give me 2 kits manuals to draw instead of doing decals, that's how painful I found them to do. Ben
Wicked!!! Looks just like the photo! Your tank cars are going to look Zahori when finished!! :tb-biggrin: You Da Man!!! Hobo Tim
Excellent!!! Is this done for the new AZL tankcars? Myself I'm thinking about tankcars named for "GATX de Mexico" for my future Yucatan project.. Dom
Yes, this is for the AZL tank cars. This is a satallite picture of Laurel Montana yard, and there are lots of these tank cars in it, so since i model the region, I need these tank cars. Here is what a prototype car looks like: GATX 2185
Robert, this is great, as always. Now, another great thing you did some times ago, the F3 conversion parts. Did you spare some for good old Lajos?
Hi Lajos, I have not finished that project yet, I have the sides rastered and fans done, but need to verify the other side fits. I only have one side installed in the shell. I will send you some. Meanwhile, I finished my Zahori Asfalto car decals, and repainted 3 of my cars. Got to keep 1 of the UTLX cars in original paint.
Thanks Rob, and the best part about them is they actually fit into a consist of the region I model! I really like a lot of the colorful Mexican schemes, and they even know how to make a plain black tank car stand out!
Great looking Cars! I dont know if they look so great because of the layout or they just plain look great. I guess a great scene cant hurt.
Some time ago, last year, before the MTL SD40-2 came out Joe D. was attempting a GP-40 kitbash from a pre-production shell. There was a picture on trainboard where Joe had started the mod. But he got word from the higher-ups not to finish until the SD40-2 was on the market. Does anybody know the link? Thanks in advance
Harold, it wasnt a GP40. It was a GP60, but I dont think he ever finish it. At least I didnt see the finish product. Z Scale GP60 - TrainBoard.com
