Just bought some rolling stock on Trainboard and no jewel cases, and have a few other items also that I want to protect. This looks like the same type of foam in the Kato items that look like a book? Is this the right stuff? Appears I can store up to 8-10 locomotives or cars. And of course Free delivery as always on Amazon Prime I'll get the 1.0 inch or 1.125 inch thick one? Have to measure a few pieces of rolling stock. Anyone bought this before or something like it to store train stock? https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B09NXNFVZS/ref=ox_sc_act_image_1?smid=A1H9C5WYP4XZPR&th=1 Think I am going to get some for my buildings too, or most of them. Don't really have to get the more expensive deeper ones, just don't want them to touch each other in storage.
I've used various types of foam to pad boxes to prevent cars or locos from rattling around inside the boxes. And up until recently, I re-purposed boxes from board-mount power supplies - they were just a hair deeper than an HO car or loco - and some anti-static foam, both to be thrown into the recycle bin, to house cars and locos right up to SD40-2s or 60+ foot cars. A little glue to keep the foam inside inside, and voilĂ ! Instant shelter for loose rolling stock. Problem - we just stopped using those power supplies...
I think that is the stuff I use also. I've found local company who gets shipment packed in the stuff. Just run by and pickup what they want to get rid of. I always wrap locomotives, rolling stock, ANYTHING with a layer of paper towels or toilet paper to add to the protection.
