Painting N scale figures is to small for me. Details like you posted are in that category.

I think most interior detail on my projects will be pictures in the windows.

I have been doing all the fine details with a toothpick. Which is almost everything ! I won't be using things like propane tanks and fire extinguishers !! They are way to small to even mess with ! Gas cans? I'll have to have a few drinks before even deciding on those

I have a condition called tension tremors that cause my hands to shake making it impossible for me to paint small details. It’s also extremely difficult for me to assemble kits. I plan to use pre-built structures and painted details. I like these details from All Scales Miniatures so if I get them, since they are already in appropriate colors, I’ll just give them a shot of clear matte from a rattle can and call it a day.

I can understand. I have tremors due to age, injury and other neurological declining. But I enjoy N so much, that it is worth any frustrations, to keep on with it.

Yeah, one "shot of clear matte from a rattle can", and then go find where they landed!;)

But hey, that could be an effective modelling technique for a tornado or hurricane aftermath scene!

I changed from HO to N scale so I could get away from 'detail-itis'. Having to install grab irons, then lift rings, then increasingly smaller items brought my modelling down to a crawl. I thought by going to N scale I could get away from all of that, but there's always someone with a microscope and 20/20 vision that is willing to ultra-super detail something, even in N. Smaller than a 55 gal drum is small enough for me unless it is something that requires multiple. I have a warehouse that houses bags of...nuts (Blue Diamond, formerly Almond Growers Coop...almonds to be exact...big facility here in Sacramento). There are huge stacks of bags of nuts, but I model stacks of bags, not just A bag.

There are lot of 'little things' on my layout. Most people would never even notice them. BUT...I know they are there !!! It's an addiction I tell ya !!!!!:D:ROFLMAO::LOL::whistle::whistle::whistle:

The extent of my "tiny little details" is the tiny components that come installed on my decoders!

It's all about us being happy with our layouts, you put all the tiny details you want on it, IF it makes YOU happy :) Try some traffic cones, talk about tiny. Gladly the ones a friend printed for me, he used Orange filament, easy peasy. But man, these things are so tiny, and they look awesome too :) Tiny details can change a scene dramatically. Go for it! Oh, and take photos for us too!

One reaction to detail being tiny in N is to make it oversized. I see building models with 3-inch deep and wide grout between humongous bricks, and cars with rivets that are 6 inches across and 4 inches high, too big even for HO. I'm guessing if they were to scale they wouldn't be visible enough.

The only tiny thing I care about in the decoders is the smoke...very tiny when inside of the decoder, but it quickly expands when let out of the decoder.
