Good morning, I installed an NCE A12N0 decoder in an Atlas Dash-8 40C. It doesn’t run. The headlight does come on, and is responsive to selecting forward/reverse (NCE Power Cab) Going through programming on the programming track, it says the decoder is not recognized. Thoughts? I did the bit of Kapton tape per the instructions. I made sure the little split frame insulators were installed. (After finding the infernal things after they hit the floor)
Hey, I’m indisposed right now, and can’t take a photo or fix it, I noticed this after posting if the right hand frame power tab (not the left-hand one) that is supposed to touch the pad on the underside if the decoder, is actually crunched between the edge of the decoder and right-hand frame, sticking up in the air and touching nothing elese, that could be the problem, right. (Ummmm….asking for a friend. Yeah, that’s it, asking for a friend.)
Ok, “my friend” seated his decoder again, liberated the captured power tab, and also re-interpreted the instructions regarding where the kapton tape goes. He has it all working now.
NCE decoders need to see the motor resistance for programming. I had this issue once, got help from NCE guys- really helpful all the time, by the way. I built a decoder checker with a 100Ohm power resistor and a few wires. Now, I can just connect the decoder motor tabs to wires, and the LEDs and then to the programming track with alligator clips, and no problems. I use an NCE PowerCab for layout control.
