Rumor on the Espee forever and RPM list, with part numbers, is that Broadway Limited is doing the RSD-15 Gator low nose and high nose. (I know the high nose isn't really called a 'gator'.) Anyone able to confirm that somehow!
Apparently these are due from Broadway in december. MSRP on them is around $250, can be had cheaper, of course
I just got the shop mailer from my pusher too!! I send him an email back looking for a bulk purchase price!!!
$450 for a PRR K-4?! Hokey smokes, back in the 80's I bought a Sunset brass K-4 brand new for $300. I guess that was then and now is now. Hello Bachmann, beef up your K-4 and you could make some cash!
the gator thing is a subject of great debate and discussion on most forums right now. As a Santa Fe modeler, I would like a good gator, as a modeler of the 1989 era, won't fit so I don't really care. They are taking a lot of criticism on the Santa Fe modelers group, and on other forums, largely based on the SD40-2 that BLI announced earlier that many think isn't work the price. So, as everything else life, "you pays your money and you take your choice". Bob
Hey Bob, wasn't the Gator slug combo in Barstow till 1990 or thereabouts? I got a pix somewhere. Please keep us posted on what some of the specialty lists are saying. I like other would have prefered Atlas or Stewart or Athearn make this engine, but it may be our only shot at having one in plastic. Sure wish the Atlas Forum was turned on. BTW there is a lobby campaign afoot to get BLI to offer the unit sans sound.
the cab gators were gone long before 1990. The slugs may have lasted longer, not sure. Barstow could have been SD39's with six axle slugs (possibly gator slugs, can't remember). Bob
The book I have suggests that 'pure' Gators went mid 70's but there were EMD'd Gators (CRSD20) which lasted to '84 with the slugs going in '85...
