Could somebody pointme to the right direction to some online suppiers of HO Diesel detail parts? i'm going to be detailing a HO SD40 in the next few months so need to stock up
Yes i want to superdetail a Ho SD40 in MOPAc as I have a friend who has a HO layout I want have something to operate ocassionally.
Colonel, I f you try Walthers site and do a engine detail parts search you can find a bunch of companies, I personaly like Details West!
Well, lessee......... Detail Associates (check such places as Caboose Hobbies, Standard Hobby Supply, Walthers catalogs for HO or N scales) Details West Precision Scale Company (this links to Walthers' online catalog, with a list of this manufacturer's parts) Cannon & Company (great thinwall cabs, hood doors, grilles, noses, etc.)- Another link to Walthers' online catalog Utah Pacific I'm sure there are others I've missed, but these should give you a head start. I've used products from all these manufacturers, and I've been very satisfied.
Like most of you guys I also use Details West and Detail Associates for the most part. There's a local guy who casts some of his own stuff and I usually have him cast a few of whatever he's working on at the time. Should be getting some decent old-style EMD speed recorders and journal boxes for my Geeps here in the next week.
Well I'm just about to purchase some detail parts for HO can you buy any detail parts directly online
Miniatures by Eric have fantastic brass detail parts in HO. I've used his N scale detail parts for many of my steam loco's and tenders. Stay cool and run steam.....
Details West (as linked by the other guys above) accepts direct orders... They got an order form link on their page. Details Associates parts are impossible to order direct.. Best order from a local vendor if possible. Miniatures by Eric makes some very nice Canadian-specific detail parts.. I'd go with DA and DW for most of the details though especially if you are doing a MoPac engine. I'm looking at photos of MoPac SD40 #3004 and it looks pretty straightforward to dress up a model to reflect it.. It has no exotic details that I can see. An Athearn RTR undecorated SD40 (Part No. ATH93540)would be real close.. Just about the only things to add would be the speed recorder cable, firecracker antenna, cab sunshades, MU stands and standard pilot details (MU hoses, cut bars, etc. if not included in the loco kit). For an extra nice touch, I would put in a Cannon Thinwall Cab. Shoot on a coat of MoPac blue, throw on the decals, and voila! :shade:
Cannon and Company That's the type of thing we need in N scale. You could kitbash an engine by selecting the parts that you need.
Thanks for the help guys now all I need to do is figure what detail parts I should add to the locomotives, maybe I'll start a new thread on the projects.
You may want to check Smokey Valley as well for detail parts. http://www.walthers.com/exec/search...m=&keywords=&instock=Q&split=60&Submit=Search
Paul- what model of diesels are you modeling, besides the SD40 (in another post, you mentioned doing two MP engines and a caboose)? I would also, if you haven't already, check out the MP Historical Society webpage- there are some great models in HO pictured there as well.
Thank Bob I will check the site Here is a link to my first project, I'll be looking for advice on what detail parts I should add. MoPac SD40-2 Project
Paul, if you want a quick start, or to look for the parts you may require in the flesh, head up to The Model Railroad Craftsman in Blacktown. They generally have stock of all the main HO detail part players on hand. The pricing would probably be the best you can get in Oz. They are in Campbell Arcade in Flushcombe Rd., diagonally across the street (just about) from the RTA. Park in the K-Mart carpark next door to the RTA.
Thanks Gary, these days with the cost of fuel etc it probably is still cheaper buying online. I ended up buying direct from Walthers for all the Detail West and Detail Associate parts. Thanks for all the help guys.
