Glueing cork roadbed

The layout in question is all mainline roadbed glued to plywood. The other roadbed which will go to myindustries etc; will be on styrofoam. Can regular glue be used or should I "stick" with "tough as nails" or another product ?

 

I would use Elmer's Wood glue as opposed to Elmer's white glue. Once the wood glue is dry, it will not dissolve with the application of water. Thus, ballasting will not cause the road bed to move. This is just one technique; there are many others.

 

I've had pretty good success with Liquid Nails for Projects. I draw a bead along the line where the cork will go, then smooth it with my finger and place the cork. My curves are generally broad enough that I don't need to weigh the roadbed down while the glue sets, and I haven't had a problem with it on my NTrak modules.

 

Glad you fellas are talking about this. I bought a bottle of carpenter's glue for doing this. I haven't layed any roadbed yet. I'm not sure I want to glue the roadbed directly to the lauan plywood or not. I'm thinking about some sort of sound deadening to lay over the playwood first, such as, 2" foam, Homasote, ect.

I'll check back on this thread often to see what suggestions are on this matter.

 

I would use the carpenters glue to glue the cork to the plywood and liquid nails to glue to the foam. Or use liquid nails for both!!

 

I use the carpenter's wood glue, but i dilute it 1/1 with water. It makes it go further and doesn't seem to reduce the sticking properties. Hasn't cause any problem's in the 5 years it has been down.

50/50 water & carpenter's wood glue, if I understand that correctly. Then, liquid nails for glueing the foam onto the plywood.

I bought that black foam woodland scenics roadbed but rethinking that one. I think I like the cork better now. Trying to get all my ducks in a row before I start tacking &/or glueing things down.

I laid some peices of the foam bedding down and while it does deaden the transfer of the engine noise somewhat to the plywood, it still could be quieter I believe. I'm considering waiting til I can afford the 2" blue foam, or, Homasote, then lay the cork bed on that. What do you think?

 

I have 11/2" foam with cork roadbed on it and it seems quite enough for me!

 

Elmer's white works just fine and comes up with water for those often times when the track doesn't go where you originally intended it to go.
