Does anyone know where/how I could find out about a couple of switch yards that were in the towns of Huntington,Oregon service by UP and Shoshone,Idaho serviced by UP about 50 years ago. [IMG] I know this is asking a lot but maybe a member of this TrainBoard has an answer. Thanks everyone.

You might try locating Sanborn maps for those areas by contacting the local libraries. They are a really good source of showing track layouts, structures, etc. Most libraries in larger cities have them.

    Good luck

The Terraserver webpage has aerial photography and topographic maps of most of the US. This URL may get you directly to a topo map of Huntington made in 1992:

    http://terraserver.homeadvisor.msn.com/image.asp?S=12&T=2&X=598&Y=6140&Z=11&W=2

It shows a pretty nice little yard running along the north side of the town. Topo looks pretty steep around there! There's also a link on that page to an aerial taken in 1994.

If that link doesn't work directly, try:

    http://terraserver.homeadvisor.msn.com/default.asp

and type the name of the town into the search window.

I know these two images are pretty recent, but they may help on the basic track arrangement. Also lots of libraries retain older topographic sheets in their collections. The USGS updates them about every 25 years or so, so there's a good chance you can find the quad from the 1950s. Hope this helps!
