As a coal train drifts into town, we see some unusual equipment... Apparently, sar motive power is being leased to try out its extreme cold weather modifications, installed in Ft. Macleod, Alberta: sar 305 so far has performed admirably, in the brutal tunnel environments: The train included coal for an eastern power plant, and some fresh bathtub gons!
SP 4449 on her way to New Orleans ..... Main line action below the mountain line, near battleship rock...........
Looks like those SAR units are seeing service everywhere these days! Caught this 70MAC on UP's Oregon Division!
Those sar units are great workers.. How did that 70MAC manage to roam so far from home rails? I'll bet Ft Macleod shop crews are wondering where she went!
Hey, I've got to give credit where its due.All the above engines of mine were custom painted by TB member Scott Lupia.
Hello everyone. Haven't posted much lately but have been following the board. Thought I night post a few pictures although progress has been slow. These are just some random shots. A little progress on the layout, trying my hand at weathering and some equipment.
I discovered myself of late enjoying brass units. Not sure that is a good thing but they are pretty. Installing the LokSound decoders is not too bad and I am impressed with the sound and features of the decoders. Plus it's great to have the SP light packages working. Hope all of you are well, from the posts it seems that way. Enjoy the weekend.
Chad: Really nice weathering on the SP switcher. Can you explain the shields on SP9500? I don't recall ever seeing anything like that, just wondering if you can enlighten me as to waht they're for?
Chad's got a C-415!!! I want a C-415!!! SP&S, please! Is it brass? Great job on your motive power weathering!!!
I assume they are the 'elephant ears' that were an experiment to allow the engines to breathe cooler air in tunnels; a precursor to the Tunnel Motor.
Thanks everyone, Yes it's a C-415. OMI brass I found new on eBay. It's a pretty cool unit. You are correct about the "elephant ears" and tunnels. The unit with the "ears" is an SD45X. Only 6 made, SP and EMD demo and only 3 I think SP installed the "elephant ears" on to test for running cooler in tunnels. I figured since I do have a long tunnel might as well get it. Besides I like the odd looking units.
