MDC Roundhause has just posted a picture of its revised old time 2-8-0 on its website that is supposedly the production engine. The tender has been revised so that the entire top is a coal pile. How is the poor fireman supposed to put water in the tender? So not only is the tender now at least two feet too high to accomodate the motor, but looks more like a gondola than a tender! For that price "forgeddaboudit"!
WOW! While it looks like they refined the locomotive a bit, that tender is just plain awful! . You are correct in saying that it looks like a gondola! What were they thinking? Russ/NYC - The Hoffman Valley RR
Good Night Irene !! I know that they have recently really tried to push the RTR models and are really trying to make enough space for DCC and other fancy do-dads, but surely SOMEONE over at MDC must have sat down and looked at a picture of what a tender is SUPPOSED to look like ?? I am really disappointed...had hoped for a couple of these on my short line, but there is no point in spending that kind of money for something that looks so...well...bad !! Happy Modeling!! John
OK, I have been all over the MDC/Roundhouse site and can not find this thing, can someone drop a link to the picture in here? Kevin
Although I am not a runner of steam, I had a look at the picture. I see what you mean about the tender! It is awful! Looks very toy-like to me
That tender might look good...If they added an additional scale ten-twenty odd feet to the back of it!!! Looks like they tried cutting down a long haul. They really should find a new one.
If Bachmann can make a decent looking tender (motorized) for their old time 4-4-0, I think MDC should be able to do better than they have! Russ/NYC The Hoffman Valley RR NARA member#28
That is truly the sad thing about this loco. It is too overpriced to even make it a consideration for a kitbash. Plus, you are limited to the amount of kitbashing you can do with the motor being in the tender. Too bad! Russ/NYC The Hoffman Valley RR NARA member#28
Sure seems strange that MDC would put out this joke of a model when most other n scale models are improving in quality. For example look at Alan Curtis container chasis as compared to the Deluxe or the GHQ. Good job Alan.
I'm going to flog this ol' dead horse again, as I just received the latest "N-Scale Magazine" today, with some of Keith Lyons' excellent photos of this long-awaited model (which evidently still is not in the shops). Not only is the entire tender top a coal pile, but there are no steps on it. Truly a strange locomotive - no way to add water to it and no way for the crew to access the cab! It truly looks like the locomotive and tender come from different manufacturers and are in different scales. I know at least one person (me) who won't be buying one.
