I really donno what to do with these. I would like to roster an engine dfrom every order, and one of the 3129/3130 replacement units. How do I backdate the anticlimber pilot?
I'm about to just decal it, and call it gudenuf. Way too much work to make it look even close.

Isn't there a GP50 in N-scale? Didn't KATO make them 15 years ago or so? When folks were discussing the wreck replacement late model GP40-2's 3129 & 3130, it was suggested that the GP50 would be a good starting point to model them because it has some of the details needed. Is that a possible route to getting those in N still? Treasure hunt some KATO GP50 shells!

I'd try using the Atlas GP38-2 sill to backdate the anticlimber...

I myself have a trashed Kato GP50 shell. No dynamics though. It fell on the floor and sustained too much damage, but it's a sharp looking loco. I can send the ziplock baggy of parts your way if you want.

Yoho, that may help. If anything, I can kitbash the two shells to get what I need.
    Got pics?

I have a #3129, stock body. I run it with the blower side away from me. And enjoy it! But then again, it doesn't take much to make me happy! :D :D

As can you see, the black paint hides the wrong duct well enough. I'm more concerned with the nose light, which is incorrect.

In case you're interested, here's a gallery of detail shots of #3129:

The pilot on 3129 and 3130 was painted Grande Gold. I know the photos of weathered units make the pilot look black but they were gold on clean units.

Also the headlight housing was metal and the stripes should wrap around the top of the nose.

OKay, I took the pictures, but if you're looking for the Angled blower housing, you're out of luck as the GP50 Kato made has the older rounded one.

sadly, the handrails bore the brunt of the floor impact.

Anyway, I'm not sure if it will help given your end goal, but you're welcome to the parts if you can find a use for them.
Oh, and the motor doesn't run. This broke back when I was still a teenager and had bigger butterfingers then I do now. It's been CA'd.

On April 21, 2004 the plow was black. That's not weathering. You're right about the other details.

Thanks for the thought, YoHo, I'll contact you via PM...

It seems the radiator section is what I already have. What I really need is an order to Atlas' parts dept.
I need an SD60 long hood, GP38-2 sill, SD60 fireman's side handrails, and a few GP40 long hoods to kitbash the rest of the GP40-2 fleet; I also need some horns..... Darned 20-dollar minimum...

If you're planning on doing 3129/3130... you'll still need that GP50 for the exhaust silencer and radiator Q-fans (if you don't plan on using BLMA fans)

I didn't plan on BLMA fans--but thanks for the info!
I think I will go for the Geep shell after all!
I might as well do this one right.
At least closer than the Atlas!

How hard would it be to shape the rounded blower blister to resemble the angular one?

Very... the LL GP60 version is your best bet, as it correctly terminates at the walkway sill... not before it as the SD50/60 models does.

If you don't plan on using BLAM fans, you;ll need an Atlas GP38-2 shell for to rob an open-top fan for the DB...

Alaso, note that post-1980 blisters are very different from earlier years, the girds are 10" further back du eto the exhaust silencer, and the ERDB option was redesigned to include only one set of contactors, vs two (one on each side) of the earlier years.... check photos.

This has moved from not at all like a DRGW GP40-2 into the realm of "Science Project"

Correct the only Grande GP40's to have the Q-fans are the 3129 and 30. Can't really tell from Hemi's photos, but I think they are this type of fan. http://www.detailswest.com/images/wpe79294.gif These are the older style "pan" type. Later the "open" type came. As usual they can be replaced/swapped out for new/rebuilt ones.

If you have access to the DRGW List on Yahoo go here: Yahoo! Groups an lengthy discussion on the 3129 and 3130 and using the gp50 as an starting point. Not sure about N scale, but Athearn made an gp50 in HO that has the angled blower, q fans and anti-climber. Sounds like a lot of kitbashing and using Cannon parts, but that's have the fun, right??? :)

Man, this parts list is getting big... At the rate this engine is being built, I might as well make a full-blown detail job too...

Robbman, what am I looking at/for on these monster images?

    Mike,
I am a member--I'll check on that link. Thanks!
