On a recent visit to Ellis, Kansas, I was shown the last two remaining 89' auto parts boxcars, that were late in their careers converted to express cars. They still carry the colors and logos of the express service. They are on display behind the Ellis Railroad Museum. Also while visiting, I noticed that the UP trains running both East and West held multiple Missouri Pacific coal cars and grain cars. Robert Simmons Member Missouri pacific Historical Society

Robert & all, One note of correction. These cars were built new at the MoPac shops in DeSoto, Missouri. They were not rebuilt 89' boxcars. The cars were built in 1962, numbers 135 thru 184, as Box-Express cars. Their length was 70'-1" between end plates. The cars remained in that service till sometime in 1965 when they were converted to mail storage cars. Following the decline of pasenger mail service, the cars were downgraded to MOW cars. This link shows one of the cars in service. http://www.rr-fallenflags.org/mp/mp-e149.jpg Gene Semon
