I will be working on my lake/pond soon and I am looking for some ideas. Mine will be about 20'' x 12'' approx. or about 2 sq ft.
What did you use for the water and how did you color it? Is the color under it or mixed in? Show them lakes and ponds, or rivers and creeks too.:thumbs_up:

I use textured Plexiglas that I paint muddy green on the bottom.

The only lake/pond I had was on my old N scale layout.

here is a small pond/ditch that I am just about to add "water" to, as soon as the surrounding scenery is finished.

Here's my pond, although it's not done.

I first painted the floor using a cheap acrylic paint, then painted on several layers of Gloss Medium. I made the brush strokes uniform to resemble ripples.

Lots more shore detail to add yet.

Roaring Creek. Color under, Magic Water, the blue is reflection of backdrop.

I actually managed to very closely match the look of the water in the South Thompson River in the south-central interior of British Columbia.

This is a small Mill Pond. It was my first attempt at water:

This is Moose Bay, a slightly larger feature.

I use Envirotex Lite for my water. My base is pink foam. I gouged out the depression, and then coated the uneven surface with plaster cloth. I painted that with cheap acrylics and added some sand in spots.

I did the water pours in the recommended 1/4-inch or less layers. (Mine were mostly around 1/8th inch.) I tinted each layer slightly with a few drops of cheap acrylic - dark blue in the lower layers (which came out light, since I used so little) working its way up to light green for the top layer. This gives the otherwise glass-clear Envirotex some "depth" and makes the bottom look a bit out of focus, which is more realistic.

    ponds

My ponds are pretty straight forward. I paint the base of the pond in shades, lighter in the edges and darker as you move to the center. Then I apply clear calk. The clear cock is a white color until dried. An important thing to remember is to save some of the details that go in the shore or just in the edge of the water tell just after the clear calk dries. This includes rocks and weeds and branches that are in the water or need to look like they are partially wet.

Here is a section of the Arkansas River on my layout. It is constructed with a masonite base painted with dark blue acrylic paint and one layer of Woodland Scenics water effects.
