I have a MRC Tech II 2500 power pack. It was only used a few times, and sat in storage for many years. I planned on using it, but it now does absolutely nothing. No hum, no indicator light, nothing.

Does anybody know about these things? Is there an interior fuse or something that can be replaced/fixed?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Send MRC an email, (you can get it from their site). They might be able to give you a starting point. They helped me a time or two but it was user error.

If you're wired up right, and there's power at the socket, I have found that when my MRC gets hot it fuses off, and nothing happens. Perhaps your fuse popepd inside? Or worse, you have some stray wire strands connecting the ac terminals to the dc or something similarly miss-able? Also, is there any rust or corrosion, and was it exposed to humididy in storage? The old circuit boards (don't know the age of it) used a high acid flux that LOVES to corrode and eat itself alive!

    Thanks for the responses.

I was away from the hobby for awhile and it was stored in my garage for several years, and it gets pretty humid in this area (Texas) which is an understatement).

It has been a few months since I tried using it. But I hooked it up this morning and BAM! it worked! I am wondering now if I had hooked it up wrong the last time. It wouldn't surprise me.

I do plan on using it for short periods to make sure it is safe and the problem does not re-occur. I had said it was a 2500, but it is only a 1500. My 1400 is older and I have never had a problem with it. Let's hope it is still good.

    Thanks again for the responses.

Like a lot of electronic equipment, powerpacks can collect moisture inside the case when stored in humid areas where there are temperature fluctuations. Same thing as UPS or USPS delivering in cold weather.

Sometimes that moisture inside shorts something out and it won't work. Letting it sit long enough for the moisture to evaporate often solves the problem. Sounds like that's what happened to you.

The good news is, once it starts working again, it should continue to work unless the high humidity conditions are repeated.

Glad you had good luck this time around.

    Darrell, quiet...for now
