Some years ago, Moder Railroader Magazine carried a number of articles by a guy who had built a super HO layout. I believe he sorta retired from modeling, which is a huge loss because he was really gifted. I'm trying to remember the guy's name. It wasn't John Allen or George Sellios. The layout was set around the early 1900's (I think) and had incredibly rugged mountain town scenery. Ring any bells with anyone? Thanks, George
Just how many years are you "going back"? There were many old time modelers who did 1900's with rugged mountain scenery who were not named Allen, Seilos, etc. Irv Schultz was one, Bill McClannahan was another. If you are thinking about the 80's...then maybe the name (gulp) Malcom Furlow is for you. He was the "master" of rugged mountain lines and a prolific author and photographer. There were others then who were better modelers but seemed to be "furlo-ed" out of the magazines since they didn't have the "name". PS-don't mention that name here in Dallas, you might hear "git a rope!".... Fun olden daze.... Woodie
He had a number of them including a Narrow gauge "railroad you can model." feature. That was the San Juan Central by the way. They made a book out of it. It was a good looking railroad. Dans San Juan Central
John Olson did some outstanding work at about the same time mid 1980’s. I remember his HOn3 Mescal Lines layout. I always thought his work was a bit more believable than Malcom’s caricatures.
