Hi guys I’m a avid SAL fan who lives in South Africa. I model Ho scale and am currently building a layout. I think I’m the only SAL modeler in South Africa so I’m banking on you guys to help me along. I have just started a Blog for my layout so please check it out and leave some comments. http://seaboardairline.blogspot.com/
Welcome to Trainboard. It is always interesting to have modelers from all over the globe to share their experiences.
Charl - A second welcome to Trainboard. As you can tell from the herald attached to my site I am also a very big Seaboard fan, as seconds I've also managed to work in a little ACL and Southern. On Trainboard there is a small, dedicated fan-base for southeastern railroads, Seaboard amongst them. Feel certain that I speak for them when I say we'll offer any help that we can. I am not familiar with the Wildwood - Coleman section of the Seaboard except to know that Seaboard concentrated most of it's ALCO power in Florida, actually south of Savannah. I do know that Wildwood saw all of SAL's Miami - New York streamliners. You may wan to check out the "Fallen Flags" section under ACL/SAL on Trainboard to get the names of the people I mentiond in paragraph 2.
Welcome to TrainBoard! Charl - Welcome to TrainBoard. I know only one other South African modeler and he models Chessie, so you may be on your own south of the equator there. [edit] Good link, Charl. Check this out: See photo... What are those yellow - purple weights you are using? Looks good.
Welcome to Trainboard. That is one cool layout plan. As one who loves operation, that layout should keep you busy for hours. I also like the false front with filler pics for the backdrop behind the yard. Look forward to more progress pics.
Welcome to TrainBoard! Nice blog. A quick request- Would it be possible to enable your layout plan to enlarge? My poor eyes cannot quite see the smaller details. Boxcab E50
31 July 2010 Welcome to the Trainboard. Good to know the SAL crossed over the big pond. The Seaboard Air Line trains as well the Atlantic Coast Line and Southern Railway trains cross over the Southern Coastline Railroad System (SCRS). This way I get to enjoy all three. It would be nice to have your room for a 1/4 inch scale hi-rail layout. Larry @ SCRS
Welcome aboard Charl, that's an interesting layout that your building. Packed full of lots of fun. I look forward to seeing your progress. Glen
Several years ago I ran across a section on the internet about a gentleman in Germany who was also a big Seaboard Air Line fan. Ever since Charl posted I've been trying to find it again but with no luck. It is nice to know that our favorite railroad is known across the big pond - northern and southern hemispheres.
