I was browsing through my local antique mart today and ran across what looks to be very close to N scale and in white plastic.... "The White House". It was assembled fairly well, just a raw assembly with no paint or detailing. It could be really dressed up to look nice. I can go back for it if anyone wants me to, LMK. fatalxsunrider43
It would be an interesting Diorama, not sure how close any Rail Road tracks are to the White House ? fatalxsunrider43
But don't you know about the secret underground White House stop on the METRO line? :eh-wideyed::eh-wink:
The White House is at 1600 Penn Ave NW and the VRE L'Enfant Station (on CSX) is between Maryland Ave and D St SW so it is on the other side of the Mall - over a mile. If it was the Jefferson Memorial, that is only about 250 yards from the tracks.
PICS PLEASE! If you do buy it, put something N scale next to it for reference...If you have any of those MTL Presidential Series cars, all the more better Yeah I was gonna say that the real White House is pretty far from any prototype railroad tracks. You can however use it on your layout as a government building and just make up a story that your city's/town's founders wanted it to look like the White House!
I think some US state capitol buildings are constructed in that manner. Not as large, but with the dome and everything. Maybe there are train tracks near them?
The same company also made the US Capitol building the same time the white house was released. For the life of me I can't remember the name of the company, it is an educational-school supply company that makes teaching aids.
The Capitol has a dome. The White House, while a very nice example of Federal-style architecture, has a relatively plain roofline.
AND THE WINNER for the 2010 'worst excuse ever for being arrested by the Secret Service' goes to... "I was just seeing if the actual outside dimensions of the White House match the plastic model I got at the flea market for my train layout.... seriously...."
You're right...no dome. Without the porch, this could be any number of government buildings world-wide. Reminds me of some of the very old buildings at Kelly Air Force Base. Massive, hard to heat, plenty of room, and built to last!
I'll try to get back down to the Antique Mall and take a picture of this model, might give us some more plastic to chew on ....LOL ! I have enjoyed your fun comments on this one ! fatalxsunrider43
Glencoe Models is the manufacturer now owned by Baron von Plastic. Look on yahoo and you can find some at different etailers. I have only a few parts of the Capitol building left over after the basement flood of 2007!
Farragut West (Orange and Blue lines) and Farragut North (Red Line) are close as is McPherson Square. They are all, unfortunately, underground. I suppose that would make for easy modeling, however.
This etailer indicates the White House is HO scale, but the U.S. Capitol building is N scale. http://www.hobbynuts.com/GLEN_Page01.htm Scroll to the bottom of the page. Carter
I believe I had the plastic model fifty years ago. I thought it was small for my O gauge Lionel layout. Was probably HO.
