Spent nearly the entire day out in SE Cedar Rapids photographing the Bald Eagles that are roosting near the Cedar River. 56 photos out of over 200 photos made the cut. Buddy Burton Photography: Bald Eagles @ the Cedar River Roller Dam
Wow, awesome shots, Buddy. We are blessed with a lot of bald eagles here on the Oregon coast, and they really put on a show when they go fishing, or hunting. Have never seen so many together as in your shots. Majestic birds. :tb-biggrin:
I know here at home (Shumway, Arizona), I have a family of Bald Eagles we can see everyday. As I'm sure you know Bald Eagles mate for life. I should go and take pictures one day and post them in my photobucket album.
My family was tent camping beside a New Hampshire lake when we saw a Bald Eagle circling above a spot in the center of the cove. It swooped down and nailed a large fish just below the surface right behind its head. The fish turned out to be heavier than the eagle had bargained for. The eagle got most of the fish out of the water except for its tail area which was skimming across the top of the water. The eagle finally gave up after a hundred feet, released the fish back into the water and flew to a nearby tree branch. After about five minutes of studying the fish, the eagle swooped down and again grabbed the fish near the head. However, this time the eagle skimmed the fish over to the bank where it was released a few feet up from the water. The eagle then circled back and landed next to the fish to enjoy a well deserved meal.
I recently saw a TV special on Eagles. The one thing that impressed me was just how gentle, caring, attentive they are to their young. Plus, they mate for life. They really make this current U.S. society look bad as far as marriage goes. We could really learn something from these grand birds. They are dedicated by natures instinct, they do not even know what an example they set. Beautiful birds, and how they fly, even more amazing. fatalxsunrider43
Here in Coeur D'Alene, ID we are lucky enough to have the eagles come every year to feed off Higgins Point, Lake Coeur D'Alene. A site I never get tired of.
Gorgeous. Up at the lake there is one cove where a one of these will do fly bys on the houseboat. I got some decent shots with my parents camera, but nothing like that.
A friend sent me these photos of a Golden Eagle chasing off a Wolf from a carcass. The images were selected from a cell phone movie sequence. Be sure to see the fifth image where the Wolf got its butt whupped big-time!
