CMW has an iteresting poll on their blog page. Would you buy the product for the current price if it was manufactured in the US but sold as a pre painted kit, instead of fully assembled rtr product. http://classicmetalworks.blogspot.com/
I definitely would. Made in the USA is a big deal to me, and I'd love to see someone bring production back here. Even though I model the mid-'90's, I have some CMW vehicles and would buy more -- the California Central Valley was (and is) a hot bed for classic '50's vehicles .
I'm a 'modeler'. I have no problem putting things together. Just give me the parts AND instructions...I will do the rest. CMW has nothing in my modeling era but I still voted yes...in hopes that if they do it...other manufactures of other N Scale stuff will follow suit. .
A great idea. They have a good product and the price is reasonable. Now if they would make more 60s cars.....
From what I understand, you will never see Camaro's or any other GM product in N scale. I was told that GM got in a choking hazard lawsuit and lost about 10 years ago and now won't license anything less than 2" long. That is the story I was told when I asked CMW about re-run's of the 55 Chev that they have previously released. I saw a pair of them go on Ebay a few weeks back for over $30. Now Mustangs.....that is a different story. I think Model Power and Busch have the license in HO scale and I doubt CMW would do something in N that they can't do in HO due to license or redundancy in the market.
Even though I'm modern era and have no need for the Mini Metals, I do agree that I would still buy a pre-painted model that requires modeler's assembly. I'm only turned off by the painting aspect, not the building aspect. Same goes for rolling stock!
I'm pretty sure they were the last Chevy available in N scale. I hope things have changed because I would love to see the new Chevy PU that is coming to HO, also make it to N.
If the chocking hazard thing was true CMW would not have made the 78 Impalas. The HO cars and truck are full of parts that can come loose and pose a similar hazard. The idea of CMW coming in kits is great. It would make them infinitely easier to kitbash. It is way too easy to destroy the model grinding out that rivet.
If they do this, (and the feedback appears to be overwhelmingly in favor), we could only hope that other manufacturers follow suit...hopefully it will snowball and make a difference in the economy. U-S-A! U-S-A!
Tony, I heard the same thing about GM licensing. Oh well at least we can shrink stuff down from larger scales. I voted in favor of their idea too. I try to buy as much stuff that I can that is made in the USA. Even my shoes and socks !:flag:
I would prefer to buy USA and if I had to assemble it thats ok by me. I wish they would make some modern vehicles though I would take any era Mustang. Jeff
I would DEFINITELY like to see manufacturing come back to the good ole' U.S.A.!! We were damn fools to let it go overseas in the first place in the name of greed. We kind of caused our own problems........................ It's my opinion, and I'm stickin' to it.
It was the fear of a lawsuit that prompted GM to change their licensing policy. The Classic Metal Works 1978 Impala was released just prior to the change in policy. Carter
This a terrific poll - Kudos to CMW for checking with their loyal customers first! I would gladly pay for a US-made item - money and/or kit form is of less concern, however. I just like that there's a possibility quality manufacturing returning to US soil.
Ok, so now I am even more confused. From what I can gather looking at the CMW site, the Impala is still in production. If a policy change at GM stopped the 57 Chevy, why not the Impala?
