hey gang i pulled a bone head move started to do a GM&O FA-1 before i checked to see if the decals were available so here is my problem the GM&O had the headlight in a different location than a Stock FA-1 i need a shell if anyone has one this is to fit the split frame FA-1 chassis as i'm going back to modeling my freelance Indian Rock which is Based off the BN merger roster of 1970 thanks for anyone that can help lord know i need it thanks and happy holidays:tb-sad:
Well, I don't have an extra shell but your post got me thinking as to who stocks LifeLike parts. Does Walthers?
Hmmm,ya got me curious..Just looked at some online pics, never saw a GM&O FA1 before.Looks more like a short PA1.What was up on them? Are they just really early or late FA's,are they actually shortened PA's,or did GM&O order them like that?
There was an exact copy of that loco, including the curved trim behind the cab, like on the PAs, marketed a number of years ago. I think at the time some were marketed by Model Power possibly. I had a few back then alas not anymore. If I remember them correctly they only had the rear truck powered. They were the only stand in I had then for a SP&S FA until the FA-2 and then the FA-1 came out. I do remember that the model was an import, but I haven't seen them for years. Looked at Spookshow's site and the nearest thing I find is the Mehano mechanism imported for awhile by MP however that is not the shell I remember on that unit. However I do have a spare undec FA-1 shell in my parts box that I will be willing to donate to a worthy cause. Has airhorns, headlight and window glazing. If you want it PM me with a mailing address.
GM&O was the first buyer of FA's. Theirs came without the familiar grill around the headlight. I think there were other differences, but I don't recall. Frank
headlight location the GM&O ws one of the first operators of the FA as i can recall from what i have read the early FAs had a lower headlight position and grilles behind the cab like the PAs later models had the raised headlight with grilles. GM&O had both poduction runs so a high position headlight would be correct for FAs ordered later.
A picture says a thousand words: http://condrenrails.com/MRP/Memphis...&O.FA1.732.in SR Forrest Yd.Mphs.11-20-65.jpg Looks like a neat bash, if you could get hold of the Life Like shell drive and parts of the Kato PA shell.
well gang i screwed up i have the life like FA-2 not an FA-1 my bad i'm so sorry about this all so now i have to find a n scale proto FA-2 shell
I do have a complete GM&O FA-1 that runs great the only thing is the horn is broken off. I do have the horn. If you need an FA-2 check the bay they might have some complete locos for cheap.
Thanks to John Moore i've been able to kitbash a couple of shells he sent to start getting my FA back into shape hapy holidays and New Year
