So the first module is done. I have three that have shelving underneath so they are taking a bit longer than I expected. I'm hoping to get the second and third shelf units done tomorrow so that Beth and start putting stuff away on the shelving to clear the room. Then it's just dule production after that!! On an even better note, after being laid off in August I interviewed for a job and received an off on the job! Back to work on 2/4!!
I use ceiling tiles for the surface of my layout. I place them finished side down and glue them to plywood. Here is an image from my last expansion project. I had just glued the tile and was weighting/clamping it down. After they are glued in place I fill any gaps and holes with spackling. After that I paint the surface with a latex paint. CHEAPEST I can find, using a tan/light brown color. They suck up the paint. I have also used tiles for making rock formations along with some real rocks They do get soft and flexible if you try to do a lot of "washing" without letting it dry between applications. Don't ask me how I know this. I got most of my tiles (2x4) from my work. When the tiles were changed out for what ever reason I asked the workers to save them for me. After there was 10 or so they would let me know and I took them home for recycling into the layout. Hope that is helps somehow. Regards Gary
Congratulations! Now some of those things you have been daydreaming about for your layout can be moved to a near future shopping list.
