I have ran into an issue with the MT couplers I installed on several Kato C44-9W's. I have installed MT 2004-1 with the Kato coupler clip. The couplers are too high, with the coupler gauge they are just a tad bit high. When I tried to couple them with Kato Wellcars and BLMA spine cars they are way too high. It was suggested by a club member that I need couplers with the shank in the middle of the coupler, unlike the 2004-1 that has the shank towards the bottom of the coupler. Their -9 with the other couplers were a perfect fit with the well cars and spine cars. Any help would be appreciated, I would prefer to stay with assembled couplers.............. Thank You
Good to know. I have a two newer Kato Dash-9s that I purchased MT 2004s for (I should have known better than to trust the guys at my LHS). I've come to the conclusion that they are only knowledgeable in S scale circa 1950. Luckily, I haven't opened the package and can still exchange them.
For the newer ones... Using the 1015 requires modifying the pilot opening slightly. You can also put 1015 shanks in the 2004 box and avoid having to modify the pilot.
Using the correct conversion coupler seems to have also been the issue with the GEVOs in this thread: http://www.trainboard.com/grapevine/showthread.php?147987-Kato-GEVO-couplers-why-so-high
Bob, They are the newer 4 window cabs with the porch mounted ditch lights. Do you know what identify's the runs that take 2004, is it the engines with the pilot ditch lights? Thanks, Lee
I am just going to open up the pilots, I learned long ago the assembling MT's and me do not get along. Thanks for the suggestion though......
