So life as usual has screwed things up over the past months but I'm now getting back to working on my shelf-around the room layout. I was looking to get some opinions from some people just to get my thoughts back on track. The layout will be in modules on slot track shelf risers. I'm planning on building ONE module at a time completely before moving on to the next module. Now my question is this: How do you feel about curving modules? Say they are 4ft in length and I'm looking for an average of 18" in depth around the room. Passing sidings, town mine..... Would you: A) build 18" deep boxes of say 1x4 to lay foam on? B) build modules to fit your need of depth and then curve the masonite fascia? C) go a completely different route? Things to note: 1) First layout ever 2) DCC 3) Appalachia-esque feel to layout 4) Good carpentry and modelling skills Thanks for your thoughts! Ben
Fascia would be on the modules on the front side (and ends if needed) then also there would be backdrops attached to the back side of the module. Ben
Potential Concept: This would be an end unit that would have a duck under to the next module coming out of the tunnel end due to closet
Would the modules be removable as N-Track modules so you could include them as part of a larger layout at a club or show? If so, then the N-Track standards would define and answer many of your questions, especially regarding the corner modules. Regardless, I think your basic concept is great.
Nope. These are my own toys. If I join a club I'd build one for that eventually. These are for me an the family plus the lengths due to the room size will be weird.
The backdrop will be mounted to the modules but pushed back against the walls. I already have double track standards mounted up. Ben
