For immediate release: The Augsburg & Concord Railroad is working on a rebuild program with the company's SD35's. Besides updating internal electrical and mechanical systems, the rebuilds will receive the installation of the wide nose cab, commonly referred to as the North American Safety Cab. The addition of the safety cab came about because of damage received by one of the SD35's scheduled for rebuilding. A safety cab was obtained and initial studies look promising. And the crews of the ACRR suggest that the safety cab will be a great improvement over the standard cab. These rebuilds will be designated as SD35m. The first rebuild is already in the shops and is due out before the end of January. The paint scheme has yet to be determined. Still more to do, cab needs to be kept straight, needs front handrails, needs details and paint, but it's looking good. Jeff Augsburg & Concord R.R. jeff very nice, keep us updated. i have a few scrap sd35 shells, i never thought of doing this to them.
Here's the update that you asked for: Fresh from the paint shed, she still needs couplers, window glass, a horn, handrails, and lettering. Jeff Augsburg & Concord R.R. (a fictional shortline in Central Illinois) Come see us on the web: http://www.pegnsean.net/~revnjeff
Here's the rebuild with lettering applied. I did notice that there's a problem with the cab end of the hood pushing up and the same problem with the back end of the cab. Guess I still have some things to work on. But, it's looking like it wants to pull some trains. Jeff Augsburg & Concord R.R.
