This car is close to the prototype if you look at it from several hundred feet. I have done a lot of work including removing the roof walk which would have been easier with C4. The photos will show you all the many changes I've done, with many more to go. Thanks for looking, Bobby https://www.flickr.com/photos_user.gne?rb=1&path=&nsid=53243414@N00&page=&details=1
Yes, I love to build and bash. This is on par with the AHM Flexi-Flo I did, as far as difficulty goes. I found a Plano roof walk that's not going to require much modification. The walk brackets from the IM cylindrical are dead on. The new top comes from a IM car that I bought cheap years ago. I think the cage will be the hardiest part. I'm going to use brass. Thanks, Bobby
Not to be critical, but the Bachmann car does actually resemble the ATSF car it's based on fairly well. It does not look like a Canadian cylindrical hopper. It's a labor of love to convert to be sure, but It does look like it's prototype. Not particularly fine scale mind you...
YOHO, take a look at the end profile and you'll see a big difference in the before and after in my photo. A friend sent me a CD with 41 detail shots, they're what I'm going by to achieve the end results. Thanks, Bobby
I've add lots of photos to my flicker site. The roof walk, brake gear, cage and other parts have been added. Thanks for looking, Bobby
Wow! Now that's absolutely a work of art. All that wonderful brass scratchbilding & so perfect. The level of hobby craftsmanship we all strive for. I attempt it but always come up short on accuracy & neatness. Thanks Pete
Looks incredible! I have an old hopper just like the one you started with... hmm... maybe time to dig it out? Thanks for sharing! JMS
That is absolutely great work! Can't wait to see it finished! Bobby your projects are always over the top.
Your freightcar kitbashes are always awe inspriring! The time and effot you go to is more than most people ever dream about on a loco. I still plan to copy your flexi-flo one day.
