Just getting into JMRI and am only hooked up with the PR3 directly to a programming track and a laptop. When using JMRI to program on a program track can you test the features and expect the train to run on the program track? When I try to run the train on the program track it just kind of lurches along. Is this normal?

Thanks for everyone's feedback and Happy Thanksgiving!

The PR3, as far as I know, is not able to act as a command station, even for a single engine. The only programmer I am aware of that does this is the ESU LokProgrammer

As for using the programing track for running, my programing track is part of the layout as an single end spur. I have that insulated from the rest of the layout. The leads for that track are wired through a DPDT switch. One position of the switch is for programing the position is for running.

The PR3 will only support testing the sound functions of a sound decoder on the programming track. It has a pass through to use so JRMI can talk to the layout as well. But it can not do both at the same time.
