    Restoration

In a recent periodical produced by the SBRHS #3751, there was mention of the project asking for those who can to lend support to the #2926.

I support any organization who has as it's goal the initiative to restore a Santa Fe locomotive. I will be looking for ways I can lend a hand. May I suggest that each in his own lend their support. I'm sure it would be greatly appreciated.

What a moment in time, it would be, if we could get the #3751 side by side with a restored #2926. Double headed...maybe.

Wishing the guys and gals of NMSLRHS #2926 the best of luck

Kevin, that's probably realistic. You guys are all volunteers, right? That's a massive overhaul you are undertaking. I really want to see that engine run. :tb-biggrin:

Actually from the beginning we have avoided raising false hope as to when we would be finished. But lately a lot of things have been coming together, the tender reassembly and work on the locomotive have really picked up speed. Lots of other things are in the wings but are still too speculative to mention. As a club we would really like to be running for the 2012 celebration, and the museum train would be able to spread participation to about 90% of the state population.

Help has come to us from many places, in particular the SBRHS has helped a lot, their advice has made a significant amounts of our progress possible. Right now the photo section of our web site and the status reports are showing the most accurate view of our progress.

The size of the job is unbelievable, the fire box is bigger than my daughters bed room (Grin)

Our work site is visible on Google Earth but I cant seem to find how to put the address in here. However if you are up to a bit of a hunt, go to Albuquerque and draw a 1.5 mile circle around the center of the interstate crossing of 25(N-S) and 40(E-W) we are WSW on the edge of that circle close to a big square white roofed building.

    Regards,
    Kevin

Anyone who has ever been involved with these activities, knows that schedules can be altered. But the goal remains. From what Kevin has posted here, of past progress, this work is being done very, very well. I look forward to that day when she again rolls under her own power!

Just a quick note, new photos are up on the website for the club. Second stretch of abatement on the boiler is currently ongoing. (we are having it done in chunks)
    Work continues,
    Kevin

Hey, Kevin, is that you in the firebox? Man, that is a huge firebox with thermic siphons. It really is great to see progress on that much deserving to run again locomotive.
BTW, Merry Christmas to you and the entire team.

    That is Clem,
He is an engineer on the "Rail Runner" here in NM, I'm afraid I am older and rounder. (Sigh) BTW the fire box is 108 square feet after the fire brick is in, and not including the barrel extension in to the boiler. That makes it bigger than some of the bedrooms in my house.
    Regards,
    Kevin

Pending the report from the ultra sound team, we don't see any problems. Our locomotive was shopped just prior to it being placed in the park, and the boiler had no scale when we opened it.
    Regards,
    Kevin

    Spot report

I had a chance to work on site to day, we were pulling super-heaters out of the boiler. More than half are now out, and it is real nice to work in a smoke box I can stand up in even on the side. (grin) We have received the donation of a 350 psi compressor and four very large air reservoirs. The should really help when it comes to boiler clean up, with as many as six guns going at once.
For the official report remember our site,
    Kevin

Kevin, thanks for keeping us up with the restoration effort. I REALLY want to see this engine back in steam and running again. The 2900's were fantastic locomotives. If I can't see a NY Central Niagara run again, the 2900 is an equal thrill. :tb-biggrin:
