Now here is a forum that was staying active until about a month ago. Where did everyone go?

Well, as forum Mod, I check here every day. There's not been much activity since created. Strange, but there don't seem to be many C&NW fans here on TrainBoard.

I wish there were a few interested in the CGW (Mike Skibbe where are you?), or M&St.L.

    :(

I have never caught any C&NW units, but have always admired the paint scheme!

Same here. I've always liked seeing their "Route Of The 400's" scheme on Geeps, and FM units. Really classic diesel era stuff.

I doubt I have any of the 4491. I only shot the CNW a couple of times. Wouldn't you know it, the Kodak processing lab screwed up several slides from the trip above. Scratches, dirt, wrong cuts, some slides not even in jackets. Morons...they always seemed to screw up the rolls of film that contained irreplaceable photos.

I know all about this! They lost a 36 exposure roll of K64 slides I took, in mid-February of 1980. Of the Milwaukee Road. Priceless. And irreplaceable, as I didn't know of their stupidity, until a couple of weeks later. By then, the RR had shut down their west end forever.

Not to mention other processing bloops over the years. Perhaps why we've seen that company fading away over the years.

It would have been nice if more of the cab was in focus. Cortland IL. Sept 30, 1994.

    Don,
Thats the truth, I don't know how many different people told me that, even my girls!
Sorry about the pic, it was done real fast and with a cheapy throw away camera. I can't keep a good camera in the feed mill, way to much dust. About 300 ft down from where those engines are is where the C&NW Omaha line crossed the Milw. Rd. They took out the diamond in 1989 and made it a bike trail.

Back in the 70s, whenever I was in Chicago on business, I would try to ride the commuter trains. Was a big shock when I tried to find the old depot in the 90s. Walked right past it as it looked like a modern office building after it was rebuilt.
Here is a shot of the platforms from 1977.

That was the best paint scheme ever applied to a bi-level car.
